bidders have been exploring the possibility of a grand prix in London, with the Olympic Park among the proposed venues.
A feasibility study conducted by Spanish bank Santander, who sponsor McLaren, has laid out a route which would pass some of London's most famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.
Johnson has revealed he is "broadly positive" about plans to host a grand prix in the capital, provided air quality and noise issues are addressed.
The Mayor said: "I am always interested in projects that attract jobs and bring growth.
"The question of air quality and noise impact will have to be looked at. I am broadly positive providing we can satisfy the air quality and noise issues."
Ecclestone has wanted a race in London for years and now claimed he is willing to put up the £35 million it would cost to stage the race.
He said: "With the way things are, maybe we would front it and put the money up for it. If we got the okay and everything was fine, I think we could do that...It would be fantastic, good for London, good for England - a lot better than the Olympics."
The race would start in The Mall and cars would reach speeds of 180mph on the 3.2-mile circuit, with drivers racing past Buckingham Palace.
Marketing experts predict the race could generate at least £100m for the London economy from spectators and tourists.
Didn't do a very good job of searching when there is a thread just 11 posts below the one you just created.
I'm assuming this is the bid that Bernie has offered up the funds for?
I can hear the strongly worded letters from fuming residents being written already. There isn't a chance in hell the Government will let this happen, it doesn't fit with their 'green' image.
But if it did happen, I am definitely going!
Can you imagine the London authorities holding a press conference in the city where they try and justify shutting a large chunk of it off for a race, having just charged everyone who is at the conference a congestion charge to get there because they don't want cars in the city.
Yeah, it's called being used, and it's what makes it ****ing awesome.Doesn't london just look ugly. Look at the nastiness of the road and pavement. Rubbish lying around. unnecessary street furniture etc..
