London F1 Race - Maybe

Haha yeah said it's a load of cobblers in no uncertain terms!

The only way I can see a London GP ever happening is the Olympic park idea, least that way it won't be such a massive disruption on the traffic network in London and you could possibly get a decent crowd if they ran it through the stadium.

Doesn't have any of the landmarks they'd want in the background though.

Someone needs to render an image of what the pitlane would be like inside the stadium.

Man that would be epic! Start grid and pits inside the stadium, massive screens above with half the stadium filled with fans. The atmosphere would be fantastic!

London GP

Tried doing a search but couldnt find anything but be sure to merge if there is one.

Anyone herd of these plans?

bidders have been exploring the possibility of a grand prix in London, with the Olympic Park among the proposed venues.

A feasibility study conducted by Spanish bank Santander, who sponsor McLaren, has laid out a route which would pass some of London's most famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.

Johnson has revealed he is "broadly positive" about plans to host a grand prix in the capital, provided air quality and noise issues are addressed.

The Mayor said: "I am always interested in projects that attract jobs and bring growth.

"The question of air quality and noise impact will have to be looked at. I am broadly positive providing we can satisfy the air quality and noise issues."

Ecclestone has wanted a race in London for years and now claimed he is willing to put up the £35 million it would cost to stage the race.

He said: "With the way things are, maybe we would front it and put the money up for it. If we got the okay and everything was fine, I think we could do that...It would be fantastic, good for London, good for England - a lot better than the Olympics."

The race would start in The Mall and cars would reach speeds of 180mph on the 3.2-mile circuit, with drivers racing past Buckingham Palace.

Marketing experts predict the race could generate at least £100m for the London economy from spectators and tourists.

I for one would definately go visit this

Didn't do a very good job of searching when there is a thread just 11 posts below the one you just created.

I'm assuming this is the bid that Bernie has offered up the funds for?

I can hear the strongly worded letters from fuming residents being written already. There isn't a chance in hell the Government will let this happen, it doesn't fit with their 'green' image.

But if it did happen, I am definitely going!

It seems very unlikely it will happen, but I agree - if it happens I will absolutely be there.

Can you imagine the London authorities holding a press conference in the city where they try and justify shutting a large chunk of it off for a race, having just charged everyone who is at the conference a congestion charge to get there because they don't want cars in the city. :p

Add an F1 lane to this lot.

Choose your fine

Doesn't london just look ugly. Look at the nastiness of the road and pavement. Rubbish lying around. unnecessary street furniture etc..

Don't think the stadium is in the congestion charge zone though.

The news report on Channel 4 the other night said that it's a company that has put in the bid (not sure who they were) to host a race around the Olympic Park area, so Bernie said he had been notified of their application and he certainly welcomes it.

However, he also said that the idea of having a race around London's top attractions was still very much on the cards. We all know that hell will freeze over before that ever happens though.

If this ever happens, it would be fantastic for the the world to see a spectacular race around London's top landmarks. I really hope it happens!
