London Trip driving me mental

Get the ferry from Tower Bridge down to Westminster if you want to do something scenic... then you can walk up whitehall and you're at Trafalgar Square at the bottom of Regent Street.

It's almost 3.5 miles and will take you over an hour to walk it. Get a cab.

Yeah if you want to pay a ridiculous amount.

Cheapest option - walk.

Next best - take the bus, a bus fair isn't much.

Only then would i consider the tube - it's a hateful experience - it's good don't get me wrong, I just do not like using the tube.

If you plan on using public transport a lot, get an oyster card - it'll always be valid and you can use it the next time - it saves faffing about with a paper ticket - and works out cheaper than buying a travelcard. If you put £20 for the weekend I doubt you'll use as much credit as a travelcard actually costs.

Bus fares are 1.35 on oyster regardless of stard or end destination.
An oyster is pretty much the only way to do things in london travel wise.
The saying vs cash payments and single payments will pay for the 5 quid dposit in the second day normally.
The bus system is awesoem so its very easy to understand which ones go where and the tfl site has a good search for this.
All my family have one and they dont even live in london, its just for when they visit me etc.
They really arent hard to grasp.

I don't really see why people always recommend Oyster cards to tourists. A paper ticket isn't more faff, the Oyster card is the item that is more faff because you have to purchase it, top it up and return it if that is your plan.

If you are just visting London for the weekend and aren't planning to be back regularly, a paper ticket travelcard will be fine and a couple of quid more or whatever over an Oyster is hardly going to break the bank.

The walk from Tower Bridge, along the Southbank, across Westminster Bridge up to Trafalgar Square and through the West End to Oxford Street is one of the best you can do in London. There is tons going on at the Southbank right now also due to the Olympics. That said, it will take nearly an hour to walk, so its probably not something you want to be doing if you need to do it numerous times.

I personally would just take the Tube, but never even considered the ferries, thats probably quite cool.

Yeah the ferry is a great idea.

An oyster works out cheaper in my experience, and is just far more convenient - our friends that have visited us have used oyster cards and now have them everytime they come and visit. With an oyster card you don't even need to take it out of your wallet or pocket. As for oyster being a faff, you can also do an autotopup which is super convenient. It's one of the few things TFL have got right IMO.

Sure I see your point for a one off visit - but then you have some memorabilia of visiting London.

If you want to walk - walk from Tower Bridge to Bank station. Get the Central line to Oxford Circus.

If you are coming into London on the same day you can get an all inclusive card with a travelcard attached to it (or you used to be able to). Then get a travelcard for the second day.
