Hi guys, the answer to the question is buy a new motherboard, but try not to spend any more than I have!

I have a gigabyte ga-z87-d3hp still going strong and have a Antec Vortex Lum 360 ARGB liquid cooler connected.

I believe there are no 5v headers on the motherboard to power the cooler, what adapter do I need to purchase so I can one get the thing working and also control the lighting?

It's for my son, worst case is the lighting remains white, but if there was any possibility of controlling it, that would be great.

Thanks!

I think the main power would work on a normal header, but for the lighting I'm not aware of any adapter that you can buy for an old board, only an independent/separate fan controller.

yeah just get a cheap rgb controller usually come with a remote. thats what i have on an old skylake system

Yeah, I'm not precious about controlling the lighting from Windows, if it's just a remote or controller sat in the PC, that's fine. I just don't know what kind of controller I need? There are 9 fans in total, 3 x 3 in daisy chains.

YAODHAOD Mini ARGB Controller 3‑Pin RGB 5V Controller

If its the one
That comes with 4 port controller
Connect each bank of 3
To a port
Then you can Connect to the
2 pin reset header
And the button on the controller becomes
The lighting mode button
Or the reset button becomes the lighting mode button depending how
They implemented it

That’s gents. It’s arriving today so hopefully it sorts it

And yeah there is a little controller that comes with the antec, so I will plug all fans into that then that into the adapter.

Yeah that should work
Only issue really is the controller is
Inside the pc
Not really too bad if they pick colour/mode
Then dont want to constantly change it

If they did
Going back to that reset mentioned
You could get an external on/off button
It can connect to the antec controller and act
To change the lighting
As long as its a momentary switch/button
Then run the wire out rear pci slot or similar
To give external control

Thanks mate. To be honest, as long as it's flashing colours, I don't think he will be fussed about changing it regularly. I think the controller/adapter wire could be long enough to run out the back through one of the rear metal brackets worst case if we wanted it externally.
