Asus GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Far Cry £194.99 £194.99

I've also bought a 250GB SSD last year, so that's ready to be re-used.

I've got around £1200 budgetted for a new build.

I currently have 2 x 24" 1080p monitors, so happy to keep those.

Since 2011 I've been well out of the loop with PC hardware. I've no idea who's leading the race with processors/GPUs, so need some advice.

I'm a web developer/internet marketer so work full time on that during the day. Millions of tabs open, photoshop and some other light programs. I'd like to get back into gaming too (battlefield/far cry/maybe the new call of duty).

I'd love it if someone could help me put togethor either a custom build or recommend one of the ready-built PCs currently for sale on Overclockers.

Thanks

Mike

Have to do the usual , thought about sticking a second hand i7 K in there and GTX 1070 ? The CPU might be able to give your system 1-2 year stretch room and GPU would greatly improve it . That's if, you can find a cracking deal on an i7 .

Apart from that , for brand new- any loyalties over brands etc etc ?
Intel is better at Photoshop but Ryzen thread count is nice for multitasking

Would you need a new copy of windows, or can you use your old version?

If you did the free upgrade to Windows 10 and tied the windows key to your Microsoft account, you would just need to download a copy of windows and then activate it with your key. Saves you £100.

I have a hard copy of windows 7 installed on a 250GB SSD that I forgot to mention I bought recently. Can I just dump a fresh install of that on the SSD and then upgrade to windows 10?

You can still upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 for free, through the assistive technologies page:

http://www.techadvisor.co.uk/how-to/windows/how-get-windows-10-for-free-3659821/
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/acc...00)(266696)(1544997)(06-3659821-11-0000000)()

This assumes that you use some of the assistive technologies in Windows. Microsoft doesn't actually require any proof for this, but I'm sure most of us have used some of these features at some point.

It's certainly a nice offer from them.

It's been all over hardware news last 2 weeks
MS closing the loop as as that's what it was . Will hunt for it now

https://www.techrepublic.com/article/microsoft-to-close-windows-10-free-upgrade-loophole/

That exception will soon be shut down, with Microsoft updating its page for assistive technologies to include the line: "The accessibility upgrade offer expires on December 31, 2017".

The article in my earlier post mentioned that as well. You can still do it for now.

Apologies for the newbie question -

If I get a new build including

Motherboard
Graphics Card
Processer
CPU/Cooler
RAM

Can I just stick my existing hard drives in there? Or does it require a fresh windows install to handle the hardware changes?
