Looking for a job - so depressing

Hi all,

So I was made redundant about 3 weeks ago from my job as Web architect/UI designer and since have been slowly trawling the internet for a job, with some luck but not much tbh.

Trying to do the right things: tailoring my CV to each role (without bullsh*tting) and am still getting either no replies or 'your skills don't exactly match our requirements' type mails. Just had a reply to a role which seemed absolutely perfect which was a no-no. Tried to phone the agency to find out why and they wouldn't even talk to me. Its damned hard to get past even the agency - let alone the company itself ...

Its the first time i've been unemployed in about 15 years of working and I must say I'm getting really worried. I didn't think it would be easy right now (recession and xmas round the corner) but with over 10 years in web design/development and some good work under my belt, I thought I would at least have had maybe an interview by now.

I live on my own, and just keep saying to myself 'something will turn up' but honestly don't know if I'm just kidding myself. I know its only been 3 weeks, but God the days drag by ... I just want to work! Friends are really supportive, but because i'm trying to save as much cash as possible I'm not going out as much as I usually do.

Sorry guys, sounds depressing, just feeling a bit down in the dumps. There are lots of people in the same position and probably worse. Just feeling a bit low and could do with a 'manly' collective hug and some positive thoughts. :(

Yes JSA is useless, but i'm lucky that I don't have a huge mortgage, my outgoings are low, so I have to live off savings and my redundancy when I get it through (had to claim from government - company went into liquidation).

So I probably have enough money to last about 6 months - I hope I have something before that happens. :(

Was in that position some months ago. It's so extremely tedious.

The worst is when you dont even get any reply if you have been considered or not, or they wont even give a reason why you havent been considered at all. And then those who take a month to give an answer..

Atleast you only have yourself to care for. Anyways, I hope something comes up for you soon :D

get advice on CV it makes a huge huge difference to number of interviews and agency calls.

Also anywork is better than no work, should be pretty easy to get a physical dogs body job at he moment. It's a little late, but warehouses and delivery comapnys are always crying out for people.

You'll find something eventually, you just have to work at it, all the best and hope you get somethign soon.

Thanks for the thoughts/advice guys. The agencies I have been able to talk to have all said my CV is good but maybe getting someone else to look at it wouldn't be a bad thing ...

I have thought about other kinds of work, but am concerned about making enough cash to make it worthwhile, bearing in mind that it effects your JSA. Also, I have a loan with protection on it, which it would effect. Not trying to make excuses here, just very new to all this. Its doing my head in tbh. :(

Im in the same boat as you.

Unemployed and looking for work.

I got turned down from PC world for not having enough 'Skills',,, even though i build / Maintain PC's and have a decent knowledge of TV's, Hifi's and Cameras.

I applied for a job there as a technician and didn't get it, despite easily passing the one-hour exam they want you to take, 10 years experience of building and fixing PCs, and a degree in computer science. For a job that pays 6.00ish an hour they are very fussy....

I could be down the job centre in 3 months time. Things are looking dire at my work, only 1 year after being saved from redundancy too, it's a real kick in the nuts :(
