Behind you... Naked!
Im looking for my next RTS game.

ANyone fancy giving suggestions?

I have :-

ROME ( Absolute rubbish )
Frontline ( Not too hot )
Commandos 3 ( tripe - Never got much cos I die in 10 seconds of playing )

Company Of Heroes - Amazing... This is my No.1 game at the mo.

So, anything like COH will be great, but of course open to any suggestions at all.

U hate rome total war :s?

Ohwell:
Try the demo's if possible of:
Supreme commander
Command an conquer 3
World in Conflict

if you don't mind older RTS:
Age of empires 1+exp, aoe2 + exp.
C&C RA2
Cossacks back to war
Warcraft 3

Yup, Rome Total War is utter poo... The one game I played, my entire army somehow got wiped out by a couple of dogs????

Anyway Supreme commander ? - Ok, seems to be popular.

World in Conflict?
Never heard of it... going to look for a demo on that too

Warcraft 3 - Hey I got that... Ill admit I only got it cos the cover looked nice, but I was not into that type of game at the time, so I didnt enjoy it... Ill have another go later.

Cossacks? - Hmm... Ok, I will have a look at that too!

Command & Conquer. I got a mate who has a silly number of the ones. Dont know about them, they dont look that much to me. I suppose I will need to loo again.

---

Ok thanks for all those everyone... I will have a peek at any demos and see what comes of it yeah?

Thanks a lot.

Suprised no one has said "Warhammer 40K - Dawn of War"

It is built using the engine before the CoH one, that being said it's an amazing game!

Medieval Total War 2?

Medieval Total War 2?

Dont think medieval 2 is a good choice if he hates rome...

@ Fatrakoon: Lool did ya make peasants and militia only or something, dogs are easy to kill.

Well try World in Conflict first anyhow, followed by supcom, both have demo's...

WH40K - Now thats got a great intro...
My mate has that game... Not seen the game but he showed me the intro... Looks well sweet.. I will have a look on his PC at it and see what he says about it.

M.T.W - Isnt that just the same as ROME TW ?

Medeval2 = Rome? - Well, there you are then.

Peasants / Militia? - erm... Wednesday mate at 4:30 ? ? ?? LOL
Ill have another go then and see WTF I did or did not do.

Hehe, It almost seems that you don't actually like RTS games. CoH seems fairly generic and everyone seems to like it.

Bingo.

No, you are probably right... COH does it for me, where none of the others have?

I suppose its the little things that makes me giggle in the game... Things like the engineers all being NewYorkers and saying stuff like "Oh What now" and other more mature things etc... Kind of makes me giggle.

I got frontline at the same time as COH but that just didnt grab me like COH did, and the really silly thing is that I absolutely hate the first level of COH ( The Beach ) so why did I carry on playing it?

Played StarCraft?

It completely and utterly destroys any RTS mentioned in this thread so far :)

Okaaayyy...

Destroys them does it?

In what way?

StarCraft? - Sounds ok, so I will add that to my "Check it out" List.

Thanks again all.

Ok, I phoned my mate up about WH40K and he said I can have the game... So, nacherly I just went up and grabbed it and came down and I have just been twonking about with it.

Its the same as COH in a lot of ways... Those blokes ( Forget their names ) are kind of like the engineers and are required to build stuff. The way you select and move your team is simlar to COH and all round a lot of similarities to the way CoH works.

Only played the tutorial, which I kind of followed and did the jobs required but then went on one and I think I pretty much completed it cos I owned the whole map, but could not be bothered waiting for some kind of congratulations message which might or might not come up, cos I was only on the tutorial as I said, but it looks good...

Quite funny really cos in my old uni days, we played nothign but MERP, AD&D and WH ( Im sure it was 20K back then??? - anyone else think that? ) but I would never have thought about it on the PC... Never! - Right, where is WarCraft3?

Nearly 10 years after release and it is still by far and away the most played RTS game and the only one where people can earn a real living playing it. The games is STILL evolving and people are STILL finding new ways to play.

It's simply in a completely different league to any other RTS :)

it depends on what you want to get out of an RTS.

For example lets put them into categories.

Base build/ resource gather RTS:

Cossacks 2
Supreme Commander
Command and Conquer 3 Tib Wars
Age of Empires 3 + Expansion(s)
Starcraft

Base build/ resource capture

Warhammer 40K Dawn of War + Expansion(s)
Company of Heroes

Units only/ point capture

Total War series
World in Conflict

what do you want to get out of it? Personally I like to build my base and be able to have a defensive platform setup and/or manage my economy. It's probably the most intensive on the micro/macro front because of the amount of different things you do. However in some of the games I listed that does lessen just due to their design (C&C3 for example) whilst the Total War series are more about strategic use of certain units against other types.

I personally dislike the resource capture ones but they do generally have a lot of action without any times of stalemate.

If I had to choose some of those games as my favourites.

Well Starcraft is an awesome game, but its so old and the graphics are dire. I'm not Korean so I'm not going to play it for competitions or money. I'll wait for Starcraft 2 (which will be utterly amazing)

Age of Empires 3 is great, but maybe has too much imbalance to it.

C&C3 is easy to pick up and play and become relatively good at. It's a fast paced RTS which generally won't last that long. For me its a casual RTS.

Supreme Commander is a game that has a huge scale of battle, but for me it felt so much the same every single time. Especially as it went on and on.

so to conclude, if I were you. I'd go for Age of empires 3, purely because when I first began that game I enjoyed it the most out of those listed. (I had been an avid AOE2 fan) Otherwise wait for Starcraft 2.

Lies and slander! :p

SC1 still owns all the others :)
