Hi guys, I'm not going to lie I know nothing about TVs, looking to get a new one. I'm thinking of a 40" + as currently have a 32" and it's just to small. Don't really know different between LCD/Plasma/LED etc.

I'll literally be gaming and gaming alone on it and want the best possible TV for between £500-£1500. Wouldn't mind having a few options at the lower/top end of the budget.

Also what good sites are there that review TVs? I know I'm asking for help but I do like to read up on TVs and what not before I get them.

Thanks :)

Plasma tends to be the choice for gaming due to usually having lower input lag and better motion handling than lcd/led, although they do suffer from phosphor trailing which is most obvious while gaming, so grab a demo with your console of choice if you can.

Ok mate thanks for the advice.

look at the pannys either st30 or gt30 - that will sort you out nicely.

Thanks mate, took your advice and went for a 42" GT30, should be coming today, looked beautiful in store and with 24ms input lag I should be happy.

On a side note, where is a good place to look to get good settings for my TV? I really know nothing about TVs so wouldn't have a clue about doing them myself.
Thanks

yeh its a great tv with some nice features to boot.
I would suggest that in the first 100 hours you turn the contrast + brightness settings down to at least 50% this will help 'set it in' and avoid any massive future IR problems. If your playing games try not to play the same game for hours espeically if it has a HUD of any kind.

In general all your trying to do is to get the tv to fully use all its colours so that they have the same brightness etc after they have got over the shock of being used properly for the first time and then settle.

I have mine on true cinema mode then just reduced the settings down a bit, still a nice picture and after that you can either continue for another 100 hrs (to be super safe) or just crank it to whatever you want.

avforums is a good place for settings as above.

Ok mate will change them down to 50% thanks for the tips, it's my first every plasma.

Ok so you're basically saying 200 hours to be on the safe side, appreciated again mate.

How'd you get that?

I was young and I was stupid, I had something on the members market and some guy was was not committing to buy but said he would get back to me in a few days, a friend from the forum who worked just down the road said he'd come and get it that night from me and I needed the cash bad so I made up an elaborate story about my cat scratching the product, they checked my privates messages and banned me, the buyer also received a 3 month or a 12 month ban, I can remember which.

yeh 200 hrs is recommend but not essential , 100hrs defiantely essential before blasting out the contrast/brightness - which is like about a week or two of general usage really.

Cool mate, I've tried not to play with a static image for too long... A few problems I've encountered... Some games have a static HUD which doesn't change, how long can that image be on screen before screen burn can happen or IR? Yesterday I kept pausing it and white barring it every 5-10 mins but don't really want to have to keep doing that.
