I've got about £50 for a wheel lock and £100 for sat nav, any ideas at what models I should be looking at, manufacturer for example?

Well SatNav, my NAVMAN is pretty good, sometimes has a problem geting the GPS if your on a narrow side street apart from that its great and there only £100 now. as for the Steering wheel lock STOPLOCK seem 2 be the best around.

I thought Discloks were the best?

I would put the money tohether and try and get a tom tom One v2 for a tad more, i wouldnt get a cheap sat nav they arent that good, i got the gf a garmin i3 for xmas but it was truely pants so took it back, that cost 99.00, no experience of the navmans maybe they are better but i would only go tom tom now. As for steering locks disclocks are the best but they are huge.

Sure but do you want something which is lightweight and easy to put on, or something which is effective :)
to gain the "police approved" moniker, all an anti-theft device needs to do is to resist attack from a determined thief for five minutes.

@the OP, what car do you drive?

just don't bother with the steering wheel lock unless you drive a micra.. (don't you always see them on really s*** cars?? paranoid old people lol)

Well, I suppose unless you live in the bronx or have a very easily stealable car its just more hassle than its worth.

Wouldn't catch one within 100ft of my ST.

Most steering locks don't do that - even Discloks can be got off in three minutes if you know what you're doing. The cheapo ones come off in seconds however.

I do have an easily stealable car which is the sort of thing joyriders would nick (Cavalier SRi). It won't stop a determined thief but chances are most joyriders would look for an easier target which is the point really. I haven't ever had a car stolen (thank god) but I wonder if you would be so blasé if you had? :) Oh my car also has the factory alarm, deadlocks and an immobiliser/alarm but the thing which would most deter and slow down thieves is the steering lock.
