So it's time for an upgrade, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy me a Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

...BUT...

To fit in with my new home cinema aesthetics (PC hooked up to Samsung M86 52" LCD TV), I want to put it into an Antec Fusion Black HTPC Case - 430HE Watt PSU

...SO...

I'm having a hell of a time finding a Micro-ATX motherboard that will support 1333FSB.

Any of you experts out there have a recommendation?

Possibly I might be going for the wrong CPU and you can even advise a 1066FSB Core 2 Duo that would do the same job or even better.

Perhaps an AMD instead? Although having taken the time to read more than enough reviews, it seems the core 2's blow the AMD's away!?

Anyway, over to the pro's as they say, and many thanks in advance for your input.

If just watching video, HD or not you don't need such a powerful (& expensive) processor. It might even spoil the experience requiring more to cool it, i.e. LOUD fans!

What you really want is a GFX that speeds up decoding of (HD, etc) video, e.g. NVIDIA's 8600/8500 & ATI's HD 2600/2400 range :)

EDIT: The Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R supports 1333MHz FSB, see here.

Hmmmmm, good point.

PC gaming has taken a back seat nowadays since I moved to xBox 360, but rig is getting a bit old now - P4 2.8gb Northwood (800fsb) on ABIT IC7 MoBo/ Radeon x800XT PE..

Surfing, coding & video is now it's purpose (although I may at some time decide to play some more WoW *embarrassed*, purely for the rpg fun aspect you understand).

I still want to have a noticeable improvement however. I could possibly reduce the CPU cost slightly, maybe an E6420, and improve on the GFX, perhaps the [OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail]

*Sigh* I can see I'm going to have the same dilemma I had when choosing my TV, too many choices in the world today.

If no 'serious' gaming I'd go for the 8600GT. See it has PureVideo2 (more info here) & the 8800s don't. Same situation in ATI camp. The newer cards 2400 & 2600 have UVD & the 2900 doesn't. Also, the 8800 GTS will be louder :(
