Hi chaps.

I have been gaming a lot with my Xonar DG and Creative Fatal1ty HS-980's, but the want arises sometimes to game with my 5.1 setup.

I have done this in the past but not for a while and have always got annoyed with whatever mic I have used. Desktop mic's always seem to pick up to much background noise (especially in games like BF2 when I have played with the sound ramped right up. I have also dallied around with just trying to use the mic on a cheap headset round my neck, but it is always uncomfortable.

I know I have seen posts on here (but for the life of me cannot find then) of people using clip on mic's.

Do these really work? Any recommendations for a cheapish set, for when I want to ramp up my system and and game whilst annoying the neighbours? :)

My digging so far has brought up the Zalman ZM-MIC1's. Good bet?

Thanks in advance.

A unidirectional noise cancelling mic can sometimes be used effectively with stereo speakers but with 5.1 it's a bit more difficult, as the rear speakers point towards the mic.

A low sensitivity boom mic close to the mouth seems like the best bet but if your speakers are loud it will still pick up some noise.

I hate background noise from other people's speakers as there is a discernible delay in most communication software. I don't need to hear every gunshot twice...

Indeed.

Well I gamed with it last night with about 8 peeps in Vent.

Everybody says it sounds pretty good but it does pick up some background noise. I did have my speakers cranked up quite high though. If I spoke loudly there was a little bit of looping feedback from my own voice but someone only mentioned it once.

All in all it does as expected. Works a lot better the closer to your mouth it is. I clipped it to my short collar after having it just clipped on the front and it wasa lot better. Not bad for £6. :)

Cool, i'll be using headphones so i suppose the background noise should'nt be an issue. £6 though, can't fault it really. Cheers for the review pal. :)

For headphones it will be work great!

Like I said, everyone in Vent said it was loud and clear. Good quality little thing as well. Thought it would be plasticy but it is a solid little piece of metal. :)
