looking to update my mobo , ram and cpu for under £400 ( AMD )

Ok thank you very much , maby i wil go for the sandy bridge , i dont really understand the i3, i5 and i7 names , how many cores does the recommended if sandy bridge actualy have?

i5 2500k has 4 cores.
i7 2600k has 4 cores + HyperThreading (i7 would cost £405ish)

thanks very much Cookeh , i have never used intel before :p i think i will get the sandybridge , although i also do video editing with after effects , would i benefit from 6 cores with this ?

The current Phenom II is a descendant of the original Athlon 64 launched many years ago. AMD Bulldozer is a totally new architecture from the ground up. IPC will increase and so will the number of cores too.

Bulldozer will be aimed towards the enthusiast and high end market like the current Core i5 and Core i7 are targeted ATM.

AMD Llano will replace the lower end Phenom II and current Athlon II processors.

so basically , this will be quicker than anything we have ever seen ?

It has potential to be very quick.

Anyway, it will mean Intel has more competition and prices should be better on BOTH AMD and Intel processors.

Unless, you really need an upgrade now I would wait and see how things turn out in the next six months.

One thing though!

I would keep track of RAM prices and get some 1600MHZ RAM at least before they start getting more expensive. OTH,I do not have any idea whether RAM prices have bottomed out ATM.
