I want to upgrade my laptop RAM. It's an Asus X82Q, but CPU-Z tells me the mainboard is actually an F80Q, the Asus site states that the F80Q will take a max of 4GB @ 667. But then the SPD tab in CPU-Z says that the max bandwidth is suitable for 800. I'm confused. I mean, the Asus site is obviously correct, so what exactly is the maximum bandwidth thing about in the SPD tab?

I guess that the ram module installed is 800mhz even though the mobo only runs this at 667mhz
It is the same on one of my old lappys (a dell only has support for pc2700 but i have pc3200 sticks installed working fine) :)

Cheers for the response. Looking on the laptops web page, it lists two different processor options. Would having either or of the processors determine what type of RAM it is able to run?

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=PetKsA5zlZecozko

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5800 : 2.0 GHz 800MHz, FSB, 2/1 MB L2 Cache;
Intel® Pentium® Dual Core Processor T3200 : 2.0 GHz 667MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache

That's taken from the specification tab.

The spec sayds DDR2 667 MHz then thats what it takes!
But if he has to buy ram, a higher speed ram will USUALLY work at a reduced rate :)
That said i always try to install ram of the same make and speed if at all possible just to be on the safe side :)
