Looking to upgrade my memory

Hello. I have been thinking of upgrading my memory from

My current specs are

GA-P35C-DS3R - this board supports DDR2+DDR3 but only a max of 4GB of DDR3(2x2GB) although I have read that it can support more (2x 4GB) can anyone confirm this?

Now I have been trying to OC my E8400 using this board and I cannot get anywhere not even a minor OC. I have tried everything I can think of. If I even try a minor increase in the FSB the mobo will just post and revert back. I am thinking it could be the ram although I have had this ram in my previous board (GA-P35-DS3R) and an E2180 which OC'd to 3ghz no problems. My current combo sits at 3Ghz no problem but I am trying to get to 4ghz with no luck at all. Any help is very welcome. Cheers

I was thinking of getting a second hand Q6600 but since I will mostly be gaming I went with a s/h E8400 with the intention of getting it to 4ghz. The only reason I want to goto DDR3 is that I cannot get this board to OC at all. I could get my previous board to OC no problems with my old E2180 and this ram. I just thought that maybe this board doesnt like this DDR2 and this CPU. So maybe going DDR3 would help?
