just testing some RAM at the moment, and on doing a memtest alls fine for a few mins, but then after the address section hits 3-4MB range its all red and just scrolls red like crazy.

have flashed the board to a different bios, reset to defaults, changed voltages just in case, but no diff.

board is a DFI ultra-D and the RAM is 2x1GB Geil value

flashed from an old bios to 704 2BTA since that works best IMO with RAM but that didnt make much diff at all

anything anyone else would recommend or is the RAM just goosed?

all at stock. the PC that this RAM was in has never been overclocked.

the memtest i tried is the one included on the DFI boards. Have also tried the bootable cd off the official site and still the same :(

more tests done and the longest i've managed to get it to go without failing is 10 minutes. just tried to install windows on that PC and it BSODd on me. swapped for some ballistix memory and now its installing fine.

looks like its RMA time :(

RMA request sent to OCUK

anyone else had Geil RAM just die on them? this has never happened to me before. :(

thankfully that ballistix i had off the members market is working great

hey! dont jinx me dude! :p

they;re 2x512 sticks, its the 2x1gb sticks that were the dodgy ones with ballistix. i've had a different pair of ballistix running without any probs for months now 24x7 doing video encoding. not a single error from the beauties :)

well that was faster than expected, :)

i sent the pack back yesterday, and at 9:30am they confirm receipt and at 3pm i had a mail saying my orders being shipped.

only prob is it doesnt state the results of their tests and the conclusion, i.e:

RMA result - found faulty
action - replaced

etc.

do OCUK not do that?

:(

tried the new RAM and it fails just like the old :(

beeps from the bios (repeating beeps - memory error afaik)
after this, had loads of errors, windows wouldnt boot. errors about corrupted files etc.

it was all fine till this RMAd ram was put in.

tried booting off an acronis cd - it reboots itself.

swapped back to the ballistix RAM i had before - instant fix. it would even boot into windows.

ok so its the RAM for sure. back to the Geil:

tried memtesting the RAM - constant red stream of errors :(

put the ballistix back in - passes memtest and no probs.

could it be a bad batch of geil value ram?

that sounds like a motherboard issue to be honest, its happened a friend of mine before with his ASUS board, it wouldn't for anything post using my mushkin extreme series, what motherboard do you have and have you checked for any known compatibility issues with your ram/motherboard, cause i strongly doubt you can get two sets of duff ram (possible but not likely)

it has to be the RAM

i have 2 DFI mobos myself and gave this RAM to a friend (same mobo) after i had the RMA back

mine are the NF4 ultra-D, and the SLI-DR and my friend has an ultra-D also.

thing is, this happens on all 3. he tested it on his - faults and when he put the ballistix back in it was all fine.

i tried it on my ultra-d and that was the same. i put my ballistix back in and all was well again.

then i tried it in my SLI-DR. and again, the same problems but when i put my g.skill ram back in, it was all fine again.

i know this RAM works with the NF4 mobos since another friend of mine has the same combo and alls fine. also that i had this RAM running for months without any probs.

EDIT

my mate has it at the mo to test now. he's just texted me after i gave him some advice.

after putting just 1 of the sticks in the top orange slot, it passes memtest and works fine.

swap it out for the other stick - errors galore. :(

looks like OCUK made a mistake and sent me the RMAd RAM back again since this is what happened then. 1 stick was ok, 1 stick was goosed.
