Looper

Just got back from this. Pretty good but the whole story/twist etc. is extremely obvious straight off the bat, which is a bit of a bummer! If your not paying attention at all it's probably an 8/10, otherwise 7/10 for me.

Don't go expecting "fast paced action" throughout. There are parts where the story is built, background is built and characters are expanded on.
The story is great and the reasoning is explained well. They manage to make something which is time-travel based and not create any major paradox. Sure there are "Loops", but they are well explained and the story sorts through those very well.
There are some twists, most obvious but that doesn't detract from the overal experience of the film.
Some of the sequences are amazing, some really well filmed pieces. At least one sequence where you think "Did he really do that?"
Overall really enjoyed it. Don't like to give "out of ten" ratings, however one of the best films I've seen this year and not a moment of it I didn't enjoy.

This.

Also, when I saw the trailer, JGL's make-up put me off but it fit in so well with the film and his performance was outstanding.

Yeah I figured the trailer might be quite misleading. Johnson's style isn't fast paced at all, so I was thinking a few people might go in expecting a high octane film.

Still so excited to see it.

9 out of 10 from me. Very good performances from everyone. Like a cross between 12 monkeys and the terminator but think i preferred it to both of them so sorry Terry. It certainly isn't frightened of believeable characterisation and is punctuated throughout by little pockets of explosive violence. I am going to have to make an effort to see Brick now although the premise still sounds a bit clunky.

Wow this looks interesting but the reviews its getting on here makes it sound like a real winner, about time there was something really note worthy to watch at the moment.

Makes me want to take a trip to the cinema for the first time in a while after being burnt with Prometheus.

Its a hard one to pick at, obvious plot twists that is. Films that use twists that are overly obscure and misdirected generally (not as a rule) have plot holes or detract some other way because the film concentrates on concealing elements of its story through out. i can live with obvious twists if the movie is stronger for it.

Yeah was burnt with prometheus too. There should be more plot holes where time travel is involved but the characterisation and narrative in this hold it together tightly. Not able to elaborate on much of it without spoilers though. The cinema seemed pretty empty for this so hopefully word of mouth gets around.

This'll get rave reviews but left me (and most of other people in the cinema from listening to them chat outside) feeling a bit Meh sadly by the end. Some dodgy editing aside it was well paced, had some great acting (Jeff Daniels particularly) and the visuals were very well done but, for me, it's missing something but I can't quite put my finger on it. The story starts off well but rapidly starts to steal from other Sci-Fi greats, for example Terminator (middle of the movie), but the ending 5mins is well done if a little abrupt.

I won't be buying it on BR anyway which is a shame as I was really looking forward to this :(

It's a good show but hilariously predictable once you get to the
TK Kid
.

I also didn't like the way the temporal mechanics worked and the resolution, while poignant, doesn't work at all when you actually follow the thread through.

Overall I liked it, interesting and entertaining enough but never quite reaches the levels of brilliance promised.

I think i enjoyed this quite a lot, i say 'think' as i came out of the cinema trying to work out what made it good instead of excellent. It's like it had all the ingredients to be an amazing film but just cooked them wrong.

Thought the kid in it was a revelation though, amazing acting for someone so young.

I'll need to see it again. I was surrounded by complete ******* idiots for the whole film. Was unable to get immersed in it.

I thought it was good not great - solid 4/5.

Its well worth watching in the D-box seats if your cinema has them - particularly the drug and TK sequences.
