Looper

personal to me the film ending made no sense, i did enjoy the film tho and well worth going to see.

the reason why it made no sense to me was we know from earlier in the film that if young joe dies while old joe is in the present then time reset it self we saw this when he fell of the fire escape and the next scene was him back in the film waiting for old joe to arrive. therefore when young joe shot him self time should have reset back to him waiting for old joe to arrive in the present

incorrect, when he falls off the fire escape its a flashback to what oldjoe did from the point of closing his own loop (by killing oldoldjoe) till he helps youngjoe get up from falling off the fire escape, youngjoe doesnt die till he shoots himself at the end of the film

seen it last night. thought i got most of it but might need to rewatch at some point.

thought it was pretty good. nothing too flashing FX wise like Dread
hard to get used to hewitt with that makeup, for half an hour i was convincing myself was it him

Really enjoyed it. Some nice original ideas and I was pleased that it didn't become nearly as confusing as many time travel stories do. One thing about the ending though:

Joe's sacrifice was all surely for nothing. We know that in the normal reality (where young Joe kills old Joe and then lives his life) that the Rain Maker comes to exist. i.e. the alternate reality in which old Joe escapes and murders Cyd's mother is not necessary for the Cyd to become evil and turn into the Rain Maker.

It is also surely not a coincidence that the Rain Maker is referred to as having a prosthetic jaw and we see Cyd shot in the jaw by Old Joe at the end.

I liked the film, but personally found it unnecessary for them to have the make up on Levitt to make him look like Bruce Willis. There's been plenty of films where you've had to suspend your disbelief a bit when you have a young and an old version of someone.

Also, the mid-section to the film slowed down way too much.

Plus the little kid, whilst a good actor. Really creeped me out.

Saw it today - thought it was OK....nothing amazing. The basic premise was good but it never quite lived up to its full potential. I also agree that the makeup was just distracting and totally unnecessary. The biggest problem for me was that it tried to be too many different things - sort of a film-noir, little bit of sci-fi western, dash of Terminator, hints of The Omen, bit of this, some of that, etc, etc.....and it never became more than the sum of its parts. It should have been poignant and even moving, but in the end I just didn't care enough about the character and it all fell a bit flat. Still, not bad and worth a watch.....just don't see why some critics are raving about it so enthusiastically.

7/10 from me.

I just watched Looper and it occurs to me that if you travelled back in time knowing that if your younger self got hurt or killed, you would instantly feel the consequences, wouldn't you go to paranoid lengths to keep them safe, and not tell them to just run for it?
Makes me wonder what Abe did with his younger self.

There were a few places where people got blown ten feet backward by a blunderbuss shot too!

It's not trying to take the physics of it seriously, I liked how they actually said that in the script, something like "we don't have time to discuss how this time travel works". They just want to have fun with the concept and it works reasonably well.

It's an enjoyable watch but I never really got any empathy for the characters, didn't really care about avenging his wife at all. Plus I found the makeup slightly disturbing. Worth a watch but it's a fairly average film.

They were caught in a loop and the end of that time loop his wife died every time and he had to prevent the mother from dying because the boy was the new future crime boss with his power. So to break the loop that killed the boys mom and sent him off angry and eventually evil, he killed himself and as he did that his older self died and he will never get to experience the future that he had.
