Hi all

I lost the missus phone  which is under insurance with Vodafone, they inform her to go to a shop to fill in the claim form.

Will this be an easy transaction?

Will we get the replacement there and then?

cheers :)

They might tell you to go get a crime/lost reference number from the police then you will need to fill in the form at the shop and they should give you one there, think there is a £30 claim charge though.

Got it sorted.

She phoned them up, and just claimed. Phone coming tomorrow. No reference just £25 :(

Just hoping we can find it, it is in the house somewhere.

Cheers :)

Very lucky!
mMy insurance is through LLoydsTSB.
The company they use is terrible. Even though on the claim form I stated I wanted the same phone as lost, they sent me a letter asking me to call.
They wanted to offer me 2 other phones worth only £170, less than half the price of the one I lost. It was 5 weeks before I had the money for a new one!

I expect they will block it anyway, so if is does turn up - it wont work

You can unlock them cant you?

Cheers :)
it would require unbarring, not unlocking which is illegal, most people sell the barred phone on ebay for a fair bit

edit - i meant unbarring is illegal, not unlocking

Unlocking illegal?! LOL. It most certainly is not :) The only thing that *is* illegal is changing the IMEI number of a phone.

And that is the only way to get around network blacklisting, which is what will have happened to the old phone...

Remember, the blacklists are shared by the networks, it may take a while for the details to be passed around, but it will be unusable on all uk networks eventually.

Did they give you the full amount of your original phone or did they only give you £170 in the end?

Yeah but the guy said unlocking was illegal, which is something else. Unbarring a phone by changing the IMEI is definitely illegal.

Thanks all for this "confusing-but-we-got-there-in-the-end" discussion :p

Will they bar the phone if its just reported lost as ours was or do they bar everyone thats is claimed on insurance.

Just to point out that the phone is lost not just some insurance scam. The missus had me looking all night for it, for her just to say right at the end "doesnt matter i have insurance on it".

Cheers :)
