Lost phone

I have had a brand new iphone, unlocked pinched from my car. It didn't have a sim in it but I do have the box etc so have the imei number and credit card receipt. Although didn't have insurance. Stupid I know

Anything I can do apart from report it to the police? Or can they bar the imei?

cheers for the reply. I just bought it from Argos, so no sim. Just an unlocked phone
