Lowering a Ford Escort Mark 6

I recently purchased some 195/50/15" for my escort and fitted them my self, the cars sitting quite high now and needs to be lowered to sit right. Im thinking of going 60mm with just springs but i may replace the shocks too so i wont damage the stock dampers.

Is there a way of measuring the drop distance in order to make sure that there will not be rubbing? I just measured 60mm down from the edge of the wheel arch towards the wheel and tbh it looks like 60mm is going to put the tire real close if not on the wheel arch edge, is this the correct way to check?

A 60mm drop would be to much it will throw out the geometry and cause weird tyre wear I wouldn't go lower then 30mm.

Ok thanks, most of the spring and damper kits say 40mm or 60mm, found some springs at 35mm for 70 quid so i guess theyd be the best bet?

It's probably a better idea asking this question on a ford forum as you'll likely to come across people who have been in the same situation and they will be able to advise appropriately.
