I posted about this problem a few weeks back where my internet would start slowing down dramatically then just wouldn't load any sites when utorrent is open.

I remember having this problem but I had managed to fix it using one of the utorrent guides although I haven't been able to use it since. This also affects the 2 pc that are connected to the network.

I'm really hoping this hasn't got anything to do with the router but I really would appreciate it if anyone could help me out.

I'm running xp and have a 4mb virgin media cable conection.

Global max was set to 750 so I've put it down to 200. I've also patches TCPIP.SYS. I also forgot to mention I have to power cycle the router to get the internet working again.

You might find you have to reduce it further still. I used to have a router that could only take 50 without crashing.

Not really unexpected.
Too many connections fills the router's RAM/NAT table/little brain, so the router crashes or everything grinds to a halt while the connections time out or close.

There is an option on the router to reduce the connection timeout, but AFAIK you need to install third-party firmware like DDWRT.

It's helped but I've also noticed the green light at the bottom of utorrent is no longer green and has a red attention mark there instead. I've checked the ports are being forwarded properly and made sure utorrent is on the xp exceptions list.

Even though the light isn't green I'm still getting some good download speeds with certain torrents.
