Hi all a quick question for you all.
I know it is legal to book a motor in for an M.O.T and drive it there but i need to know if there is a maximun distance.
Odviously the motor is Not M.O.T'd at the moment. I need to know whether i can drive say 125 miles to the garage i have it booked in at.

Facts rather than thoughts please gents.

There are no specifics regarding that section of the law (Law RTA 1988 sects 45, 47, 49 & 53), just that you can't drive without an MOT, with exception of driving to a pre-arranged MOT test, and/or a garage to get work done.

I think I remember reading on a website (DVLA) somewhere, that it is legal to drive to the MOT station without an MOT. But on the other hand, it cannot be a big distance etc.

Im sure this was on DVLA website.

Any further than the local one to the area I suppose, but it didnt say a distance... So "I thought I could take it to my usual test station" ? if that is the case?

THE FACTS
I rang my mate an MOT inspector and he said he was only looking at the rules the other day.
Apparently it used to say the nearest MOT centre but now it does Not so therefore you can drive to any PRE booked MOT centre/garage.
This is so cool i am on a bit of a mission at the moment and this makes my life/mission about fifty times easier.

The wording goes something like You can drive a non MOT'd car to a pre booked MOT at an MOT test centre and if failed you can drive it from the MOT centre to a garage for the work to be done.
There is absolutely No mention of closest or nearest centre. :D

Just make sure its safe for the road, no mot is just a fine anyway

Except it also invalidates your insurance in the event of an accident (assuming you arent driving it to a garage for repair work)

Not unless it was the cause of the accident, if it had dodgy brakes or whatever it shouldnt be on the road whatever documents you have or dont have. They might not pay out comprehensive cover though

Just to let you now, it's also legal to drive it back from an Mot station if it fails. As long as the MoTer says its safe to do so. However check with your insurance first as some agree and some dont.
