I have a K800i and I just got hold of a 1gb M2 memory card for it. There no problems with it, I was just amazed at how tiny it is. For 1gb its like half cm square by 1mm deep. Its insane.

Anyone know how they can suddenly make them this small? Is it just progressive refinement, or a new type of tech? Can we expect higher capacity this small?

Basically I am just well impressed. Well done sony (if they produced this).

just as a side note, do you mind if i ask where you got it from? i work for a mobile phone fulfilment company, and both sony and sandisk have confirmed to us that there is a major shortage on the 1gb M2 cards in europe, and that 90% of the products available on an auction site are counterfeit.

My brothers fiance works in an area where she can get her hands on a limited supply. Very handy! I heard there is uber troubles with getting them too. It was a birthday pressie :p

Same goes for MicroSD, they are absolutely tiny.

they're getting crazy small now, saw a microsd the other day, really thin!

personally, i'm dead happy with memory stick duo pro, they're small, but really easy to handle

i swap them around a lot between my camera/psp/phone/reader :)

they are crazy small, even smaller than microsd. i dropped mine at a bar on a friday night. dark red carpet, quite dark and i was drrrrrunk. luckily a bouncer found it for me.

The place i got mine from still have 1gb in stock. don't thinki i can post it though as it's a competitor?

see now its times like this I wonder why if they can make 1gb so small they dont make a slightly larger say 5gb drive to go onboard a motherboard and contain windows or something. I know vista is uber big, but any previous OS shoudl fit on a few gb flash disk

1Gb in microSD form. It's getting extreme... I removed 64Mb flash card from my old camera the other day. It used to cost fortune, cutting edge, but now I look at it and it's huuuuuuuge. Big like half of new cameras almost.

I remember I had a digicam not long ago that only took up to 16meg cards, and those were large too. I really cant wait to see how far this tech goes. no one any idea if this is new tech or refinement?

MY GOD!
just looked it up on wikipedia.

In a joint venture with SanDisk, Sony released yet another new Memory Stick format on 6 February 2006. The new Memory Stick Micro (M2) measures 15 × 12.5 × 1.2 mm—roughly one-quarter the size of the Duo, around the size of a fingernail—with 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB capacities (could theoretically have 32 GB in the future). Maximum transfer speed is 160 Mbit/s. It comes with an adaptor, much like the Duo Sticks, to ensure compatibility with current Pro devices.

32gb, can you imagine summin that small at 32gb. that would be insane

To think how proud I used to be about the size of my 6gb compact flash drive.

Actually the thing I am most waiting on is for them to get to 5gb. Then you could stick dvdrs on them. Imagine renting out full dvds on something that size.

Well these things go up to 32GB possably, that could rival even the lesser HD-DVDs. but yeah fine. a 10GB one.

There was a shortage a little while ago. But there are no more issues with stock. Its been a lot more plentiful since October.

Sandisk Cards are a little tight (1GB particularly), but Sony Branded ones are fine. All the usual big disti's have them.....
