M4 firmware 0309 is now available

Probably not the problem, but is your keyboard USB?

Could try a PS/2 keyboard if you have one about. Found sometimes my USB keyboard wouldn't work in the BIOS or at DOS, but the PS/2 worked fine.
 
I've just got an M4 256GB SSD, and I've just flashed the firmware. All seemed to work no problem...

I checked the speed before and after (As I expected an increase in speed), and well...

The speeds haven't changed much (the dials wobble around, so the speeds were practically the same)

Any ideas?
 
There isn't a speed increase with 0309 as far as I'm aware :confused:

The speed bump came with an earlier firmware that all newly purchased drives should have preinstalled.

500MB read is the max you'll get at the mo.

This is the first firm update I have done since owning the M4 which I bought in May 2011......

The performance increase is noticeable and very pleasing
 
Only just seen the new update myself, I will be updating my M4 tonight.

Great work by Crucial to push out a new firmware for the 5000 hour bug so fast.

Just to inform you that yesterday evening I experienced the bug on a Crucial M4 64GB (rev 0002)

I noticed that when I was able to get back into windows, it would last for an hour or a bit before BSOD. During the night I did the Memtest test to make sure RAM was ok.

I then looked in another thread on this website this morning and it suggested to update firmware (and then I read on Crucial's forum). I used SSDLife to measure the "Powered On" time and it was 5217 hours. Bingo - I got something to work on!

The update was hanging on the InitDisk bit even when removing USB devices. So I transferred to another machine (both this disk and my other M4 128gb SSD). Ran the update on both SSDs. Transferred back to this machine.

All data okay. I then did a Prime 95 Test to confirm that it could not be anything else. Just came back from work. And all is well.

Summary: This firmware works and it solves the problem I had. :)
 
Update went ok, all good, these drives are great in ahci or ide and on win xp or win 7, good stuff, expensive if you have a ton of data to install, i don't really have a lot of data installed on em, but ssd's are very responsive in day to day usage and gaming.

Not at all, why would it be a joke?

To let a product on the market that "becomes unresponsive after 5184 hours" isn't great to be honest.

Don't get me wrong it's good they fixed it and all that but surely it would have been better that this showed up in their testing before they released the product!

You expect them to test a drive for over 7 months of continuous 24/7 use before bringing it to the market, that seems a bit extreme?
