ok in a bit of a pickle, i have a macbook pro, my girlfriend lost her intall disc and i needed to reinstall osx so a friend with a macbook lent me his osx install disc, i used his mac to make a back-up and burn it off. now after it had burnt to check it had burnt properly i chucked it back in, a window poped up and it asked if i wanted to install osx, i clicked yes to see if it would load and boot from the disc, i figured that i could cancel the instal before it started the main process. it rebooted but couldnt boot from the disc (must be a bad burn) now the mac wont boot, its showing a blinking folder with a questionmark.

is there some sort of cache that wants the disc and cant find it or something more sinister?

he took his osx disc with him, he is away to the pictures and left me with his mac as it was burning the image. sort of want to fix this before he comes back, not a nice surprise to give him really. any ideas?

the back up wont boot on either mac so it must be a crappy burn.

well just a quick update, managed to get it sorted. mate bought his leopard disc back and i was able to set the harddrive as the default boot device.

so all is good and my pal took it quite well even before he new it was just a minor issue with some settings. Bravo for good mates eh!

Oh turns out another mac disc would be no good as they are locked to the device model they were sold with, looks like she will just have to bite the bullet and fork out for a replacemant...... or rather i will :(

Call Apple Phone Support regarding purchase of a replacement install disc set. Ask for the software support folks. Have your Mac's serial number handy when you call.

Or just buy Snow Leopard for 29 knicker.
