Macbeth

My favourite play.
My favourite soliloquy from it:

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time;
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing

Very well delivered by Sir Ian McKellen and Judy Dench on the stage if she wants to see the play as it was meant to be.
 
The film might be worth a go - I'm not sure I ever really knew what was going on when we read Macbeth for my GCSE, it was the teacher's descriptions that set me straight! The words/use of language just made no sense to me at the time, I might as well have been reading Greek. I think my mind is more 'flexible' now as I read some Shakespeare a few months ago and I think I kept up with what was going on, which made the experience a lot more enjoyable than it was back at school!

I think after reading more plot summaries and watching a film she'll be better able to understand the play because she'll already have an idea of where the story's going and be able to pin bits of the text to bits of the plot.
 
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply.
Really appreciate everyone's input on this :) I think I will go ahead and get her the film -polanskis version- and the study notes.

It can only help and maybe if she can under stand the plot from watching the film, it may spur her on ;)
