mad dreams...

When in rem sleep your body is paralised, in sleep paralysis you are still in rem sleep but awake. So body is paralysed and your eyes work so you can see your room, but often you have hallucinations that are overlayed on what you are actually seeing.

cool, glad there's an explanation for all this!

Just found those snippets interesting in an ironic sorta way.... how do you know its explained? All it is is what someone else has observed/experienced...he wrote it down and someone else wrote their experience down multiple that by x factor and boom its all explained......indeed....

What someone says about the experience you had is about their prejudices not yours. So dont take it as gospel. (Though i dont say prejudices in a bad way...as we all have them)

basically i mean....thank f~*% i'm not going mental
the thing the other night when I thought I was getting dragged round my bed made me have some serious thoughts about my lifestyle etc!

so if you were suffering from sleep paralayis, the type where your eyes are moving about you can move your arm like one inch and you seem to only be able to get out a groan when you try and speak, if someone was watching you would you actually look like that? Or is the whole thing still sort of a dream?

anyway, sleep paralysis, anyone know of this as none of my friends/workmates have!
is this just some crazy internet tale!
It's not an internet tale. It's a real condition. I've had it a few times in the past, usually when I'm feeling very stressed.

Have you heard of The Old Hag or Old Hag Syndrome? I've had that before as well. Absolutely terrifying.

Used to have these dreams fairly often but thankfully not so many nowadays. Similar pattern to my Dad too, he told me he used to have them a lot when he was younger too.

anyone ever heard of sleep paralysis, where you can hear/see what's going on around you but can't move?
I've experienced this loads (and wasn't too bothered about it as I had read about 'sleep paralysis') but recently have had times when I MUST have been dreaming, it's just that the dreams are so vivid I can't tell if it's real or not!!
I mean I must be dreaming that I am waking up in my room/chair or wherever I am at the time I am actually sleeping/dreaming

Quite an interesting read: http://sleepparalysis.dnswh.com/what_is_sleep_paralysis.htm

I first had this a few years ago when I woke up in the early hours of the morning, felt like I was being suffocated through having my chest crushed and there was a person with no features stood at the foot of my bed leaning over me. I slept with the light on for a few days after that one

Had it once more recently where i've seen a child in pyjamas stood at the bottom of my bed pointing at the wardrobe whilst staring at me, i made my girlfriend cry with that one coz when I regained control I leapt out of bed and freaked out a bit.

And then there was the one where there was a rather large tarantula in the room, i don't like spiders :(

Not fun experiences!

Ive had this many of times, I always seem to have the same dream where im getting tortured or something and cant move or breath, thus starting to panic then i all of a sudden i wake up gasping for air. Only had lucid dreaming a couple of times

I've never experienced sleep paralysis but I do have serious problems with my dreams. They are often irrational and disturbing with no plot, and just collections of disturbing images

I have the "can't move or walk" dream as well. Last night I dreamt I was stuck in the wilderness but couldn't escape and was crawling on the floor.

Wow. You must be quite a brave person to put up with that.
