He nearlly took himself, another car and me with him...

nearmiss1.JPG

So basically, im on my way home last night, and down a stretch of road in my town, theres loads of roadworks, and they've shut half of the lane heading into town, so the traffic thats heading in has to run on part of the rumble strip, which ends just above in the picture at the bottom.. so as I always do, im a few yards of the junction so I signal to turn right and I begin to slow up.. (My route is the black dots)

So into the filter I go and I start assesing whats ahead of me.. I see the green car so I know im not gonna be able to turn. And about 2 seconds later and OVER the juntion, comes this mad ass motorbike overtaking the red car, and straight in my driving line so I slam on the brakes and I come to a near enough stop, he was literally cms from going into my car... why do people take such idiotic risks? he was that close, i literally had to pull over in the next cul de sac to calm down it had freaked me that much! He must have seen me signal because you really, really cant miss the colour of my car...

Anyone had any similar experiences?

Seen it plenty of times, rider is well on his way to helping keep the bike statistics up there to be honest, all one can hope is that he manages to do it without hurting anybody else at the same time :(

Indeed, it's stunts like that which gives bikers a bad name. Unfortunately it's not often that people realise how close they come to killing themselves and others, so they just keep going until they do :(.

Personally, i think most morotcyclists drive like this and are utter tossers. the standard excuse would be its the car drivers he tried to kill me.

Happened to me a few times, probably more inches, doesn't really phase me too much, the worst you could do is kill or disable the biker and tbh you'd be doing everyone a favour.

I use the A6 just about everyday and it's the behaviour of the minority which detracts from the majority. (Im not a biker BTW).

Only yesterday I came upto a roundabout where a biker undertook me, nearly losing his backend and cms away from my vehicle only to then pull in front of me, blocking my way and purposefully spinning his rear wheel over some gravel to chuck up a load of stones at my windscreen. All this was done with him turning his head and having the audacity to arm wave at me. He then overtook a travelling car in front in a 30mph zone at well over the speed limit across solid hatched central markings.

His hurry? To get to a petrol stations 1 minute later.

Yes he was a pilchard and I see plenty more of it (bikers showing off look at me ma no hands and all that) but I do recognise that also plenty of decent bikers exist, just a shame that some tarnish the rep for everyone.

No, most motorcyclists DONT drive like this at all. Its summer weather and all the sportsbike boys who only ride for a couple months a year are out in force. They are numbnuts most of them and as a "regular" motorcyclist I despise them in the main too. They are so obsessed with being in front all the time that they are willing to risk life and limb to do it. They can't filter properly and they never look over their shoulders to check before switching lanes.
I had one the other day while waiting at the lights who overtook me just so that he could be in front (why I dont know, we where stopped) and slapped my wingmirror he was that close, because he had failed to account for the wide berth a bus needs to turn into the junction and left himself well short of space, just called him a ****** and left him as soon as the traffic started slowing up ahead of him.

Seen a lot of stuff like that while on way to college on my motorbike. What that biker pulled off just looks stupid. If he/she carrys on like that they wont be doing it much longer.

I hope that is true but hte majority, I see on the roads see the roads as some kind of giant race track and cars as some kind of annoyance. I will concede that there are sensible motorcyclists but they seem to be out numbered :(

Yeh, I have no objections to bikes, although I wouldnt be caught on one as I think they are death traps.. you've got no protection bar your helmet and pads.. but like someone said, the minority of bikers that ride properly are just that, a minority!

I certainly feel in the minority when I ride my bike, the times I'll not even consider overtaking due to conditions only to have some **** race past me and the two cars in front is all too frequent, and no, other drivers don't see you, or they see you and then ignore you which is always nice

The other day, some *** on a Moped tried overtaking a car that was in the turning right lane, when the car went to turn, the moped rider beeped and shuck his head.

I certainly let him know that it was his fault and not the other drivers at the next junction. ;)

Still, not as bad as wobbling cyclists or some black rapper want to be just thinks he can totally ignore a red light and cycle right in front of me on the A38. Or cyclists who cycle along side you to go straight on when you're in the LEFT turn off lane.

And can someone tell me why in Bristol they have the cycle section in FRONT of the cars at traffic lights? So you have about 6 cyclists in front of you when you want to move off from the traffic lights. Where's the sense in that?

I don't understand why this had such an effect on your life that you felt it deserved not only an essay, but also... a colour coded diagram :p

But somebody didn't follow the highway code!!

He's a new driver, things like this will probably shock him for a while until he gets used to it.

here here, getting fed up of biker bashing on this forum!

yes some are NO SWEARING, but theyll get whats coming to them one day.

Motorcyclists are just other road users. You get good ones, inexperienced ones and dangerous ones. Unfortunately the extra power gives the dangerous ones the opportunity to really show off just what tossers they are, as the one in the OP shows.

There are however plenty of good motorcyclists out there too. Ones that can read the road, asses danger and ride defensively. I'd say that age has a lot to do with motorbike riders because self preservation comes with experience. Its unlikely that a rider would get to be 40 riding like an idiot.

Thats about as useful and accurate as me saying that most young drivers drive like tossers. The fact is they dont, but its only the ones you see acting like this that you notice and remember.

Dont worry about it mate, its nearly always empty I find on my commute to Bristol. They have already gone flying through the junction well before the lights gone green :D

Back to bikers, the problem is that the ones that ride "normally" dont get your attention enough to warrant remembering. Its only the sheer stupid ones that you notice and remember and end up with the "majority of bikers are numpties" mindset.

I have seen this before, I have also seen a bit of road rage where a scooby (sti) chased after a biker. I was told it was a daytona, whatever one of those is.

Think the scooby driver was wasting his time tbh. :D
