My dad can receive but not send emails on both our Broadband connections with BT.

I can however send and receive fine on all my web servers with k1z.com.

So whats going on?

Need a few more details - what are the outgoing mailservers he's using?

BT may operate similarly to Orange (Wanadoo/Freeserve). They block all outgoing traffic on port 25 unless you use their SMTP server. You may find you have to change his outgoing mail servers to BT's.

We've tried changing it to smtp.btinternet.com

normal is smptp.mailbox.co.uk on whatever the default port is.

And as for blocking it, my email works fine and it uses port 25...

Normal for this to happen. The ISP's are simply blocking email relaying.
E.G. to send emails from BT via a BT SMTP server you need to be connected to BT. Most ISP's should also operate in this way.
