Seems like an odd question but if you were away from a gym from a long period of time would it be possible to maintain your size using non-weighted exercises?

It should probably be the least of my worries but it would be a shame to start from square 1 when I got back!

Cheers.

For legs:
Sprint! Nothing longer than 100m, in fact the majority of the time do less than that. Not sprint intervals (which is more a cardio tool), max effort (well 90+%) with good rests.

Cycling might also be worth thinking about but personally I wouldn't consider it useful in this scenario.

Upper Body:
I don't really know to be honest. All I can think of would be body weight stuff like pullups/chinups and then some pressup variations (elevate feet, different hand widths etc.)

single leg squats, holding anything heavy you can find and wearing loads of heavy clothes, pockets filled, etc. same for calve raises.

pull ups both types, with heavy clothes on.

press ups, with something heavy on your back.

crunches with something heavy on your chest or held behind your head.

i think you could maybe even add muscle if you tried hard enough lol.

I'm currently swamped down with lots of work and have not been able to go gym so twice a week I just simply get something very heavy and do a few exercises with it. Last week it was a sledge hammer and a fold up exercise bike. This week I may try some more advanced movements aswell as a few simple lifts.

exactly i reckon i could think of a few exercises that involve lifting a small couch/bed/mattress or a big chair. anything you can lift basically.

Using a push bike for transport tends to keep my size roughly the same... But if you are after a larger size then you may not find this works for you...

Just aslong as you make sure you do not overstretch or lift an object awkwardly incase of injury.

Im lucky as my fold up bike is a huge chunk of metal weighing 20kg, so that comes in handy but some of my exercises have had to be a bit experimental to get around the shape of the bike while lifting.

Excellent replies, thanks for the advice! I'll be on the move so kettlebells aren't really an option!

Suggestions collated;

chest / triceps
-weighted pressups
-weighted dips

biceps / back
-pull ups (on a door frame?)
-deadlift (a bed)

shoulders
-hand stand pressups

legs
-single leg weighted squat
-jogging
-weighted single calf raises

core
-front plank
-side plank
-crunches
