Hi,

Run into a few problems making network cables for a new network printer my dad just had delivered.

Put the plastic clippy thing on the end (technical term here) and attached it to the router. Made the one for the printer end (cable is run through the ceiling) and tried to plug it into the printer only for it to not fit?!

Tried a pre-made cable and that fits just fine. Grabbed my bag of plastic clippy things and of the handful I tested non appear to fit the printer or router at all!

Any ideas/suggestions? I thought they were all a standard size?

It sounds like you are having difficulties identifying the differences between Registered jack types.

Two common types which can be easily confused are RJ11 and RJ45. Although they look the same at first glance, they actually have distinct characteristics from one another. I suggest you research the differences between Registered jack types and their uses.

Done and done - trust me :)

Both me and my dad have checked, rechecked and then had a cuppa! :(

These seem to fractionally too large though? (which would be the opposite of RJ11 iirc?)

you sure you have crimped it all the way down, the clips are larger until you hear a click, which means the pins are pressing down and clips snapped into place, i know ive had that problem before myself when ive made a cable

Are you crimping the RJ45's down with one of these?
