Without a popcorn maker?

Just tried putting popcorn into a pan with the lid on and heating. The popcorn pops but then starts to burn as the rest pop. How could I keep the heat in but let the popcorn come out, or would it still work without the lid on but just the the popcorn go onto the table or something and collect it after?

Butter in pan , let it melt

Then stick in half a coffee mug of popcorn ( Or less ) and put the lid on.

Thats how i used to do it :)

why not just buy some microwave popcorn? easy!

put popcorn in the pan before warming pan. make sure you use oil, one layer of popcorn maze at the bottom is sufficient.

warm the pan up slowly, and don't forget to keep on shaking the pan so they all pop at more or less the same point. you should have to keep on taking it out as long as you shake it to keep the maze warming.

Make sure the pan is shaking.

Also add oil + salt

or butter + salt.

Shaking is the key otherwise popcorn will burn. Using a thinner pan helps and thick ones don't transmit heat quickly enough so the popcorns take a while to pop so the ones that pop earlier tend to burn up by the time the last ones have popped.

butter and oil is unhealthy (and we have neither) so shaking the pan will make them pop at about the same time, might try this

Don't think this should be your main worry when making popcorn, the butter or oil helps to make it without burning, and helps the heat transfer. If you really care that much about taking in a little bit or oil or butter then don't put any on afterwards.

If your desperate I could probably steal one of the bin bags full of the stuff from work. Only do sweet popcorn though, with a full bag of sugar per batch :D

large saucepan.
low to medium heat (not high).
veg oil.
One layer of popcorn on the bottom of pan (from cold)
put lid on then turn stove on and wait.

The heat and one layer is the important bit.

Judging by your life style, that's the least of your worries, just chuck some butter in for crying out loud...

Your mistake was not adding oil.

You need a light covering of oil and they will pop just fine :)
