Manchester Bombing *** Please remain respectful and refrain from antagonising posts ***

Police Federation indeed, that scandal beset, left wing organisation, with dishonesty and corruption aplenty, and huge, no VAST reserves of funding with no transparency. They are about as politically unbiased as the London School of Economics or Unite....

Don't get me wrong - I'm generally opposed to police cuts but I'm not sure they can really state that this particular incident is a result of them, nor do I think that the decision to deploy troops is directly related either - part of that is for the PR/deterrence aspect and would have likely happened regardless (remember the threat at Heathrow over a decade ago for example)

It makes me chuckle when you have a armed soilder on the street with 10 weeks basic training under their belt roaming the streets with a loaded fully automatic weapon where as a police officer has a good 6 months if not more.

It's all very extreme, all part of project fear I guess.
But there aren't any armed soldiers on the street are there? I was under the impression that the Army was drafted in to replace armed police units who normally protect buildings, thereby freeing them to "roam the streets" as you put it.

yup they do seem to mostly be stagging on - even in the case where they do need to patrol anywhere it would be likely in conjunction with a police officer

You know nothing about basic training...thats what makes me chuckle.

Queen on sky news chatting to some victims in Manchester hospital "did you enjoy the concert?". I think its fantastic that the focus is on the gig rather that the cowardice that came afterwards.

Good old Queenie. Must be a lovely and amazing moment for the kids in their time of suffering to get a bedside visit from the Monarch. She comes across as a very warm person.

Well should be even more humbled as she doesn't have a lot of time left in life, though i am sure she's the humbled one here.

This is depressing.

The local (Muslim) community repeatedly made the police aware of the bomber's activity and nothing was done.

Yep I made this point yesterday when it was revealed, people complain that not enough is done by the communities but in this instance it clearly appears they did yet it was ignored. So where does the buck stop? Police will blame it on cuts, Govt will blame it on the police and meanwhile the ones who suffer are the innocent civilians caught up in it.

So how many of these solders are just out of basic training?

Numbers please....

What would you have the authorities do? If they'd have done anything the human rights brigade would have been out in force claiming discrimination and Islamophobia. Unless you're prepared to take the necessary steps, which clearly we aren't as a nation yet, then you need evidence before anything can be done.
