Manchester Police Officer killed during arrest.

Dale Cregan has pleaded not guilty to shooting the officers

The 29-year-old, from Droylsden, entered not guilty pleas to the murders of Pcs Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicola Hughes , 23, on September 18 this year.

I thought he had been caught red handed on this?? How the hell does he think he can get out of this?!?
 
It amazes me the number of trials where the defendant pleads not guilty despite the overwhelming evidence. Can't wait to see what his defence will concoct...diminished responsibility?
 
just been a piece on BBC news about this. the verdict on cregan has not been given but his own barrister says he will die in jail.

cregan was seen laughing and joking in a break from court! there were other co-defendants at the hearing, all will go free.

The barristers are now making speeches before their clients are sentenced. Michael Lavery, for Dale Cregan, is only on his feet a few seconds."I don't believe I can make any sensible submissions," he says, adding the sentence that is coming is 'inevitable'.The judge Mr Justice Holroyde calls it an 'entirely realistic submission'.
