Manchester United: Frustration

From what I remember he said on soccer am he won't be playing any games :p

hehe

I hope it doesn't turn out to be true though, reeks of sheer desperation signing a player with a chronic injury like that. :p

No, its spoiling mine too. Don't know who to hate/want to lose more

Start a new thread please mate if you want to discuss it :)

thought i'd revive the thread and offer my opinion on everyone so far. Discuss.

vds - solid as always so far, felt a bit uneasy in the arsenal game without him

neville - bit stop start for him so far but he's been solid in the games he's played

ferdinand - he seems to have developed a carrick-like attitude where he'll just stand infront of people coming at him and not actually stick a foot in. This was on show most during the arsenal game. He hasn't been at his best so far but he's doing the job

vidic - starting to build a good partnership with rio and I cant see wes getting back in the team any time soon

evra - revelation so far to be fair, looks ten times the player he was last year

fletcher - seems to get stuck in quite a bit more recently, developing a rooney-like attitude in a way. He's still crap but you cant knock his commitment.

Scholes - bossing things in midfield so far, think we could struggle against the better teams if he picks up an injury

carrick - like i said above he doesn't seem to like getting stuck in, instead he'll just track the player on the ball and stick his arms out. Showed signs of improvement yesterday in his tackling, but his passing wasn't upto scratch. Definately needs to improve to win everyone over.

Giggs - obviously he's been superb so far. with park out we need him to keep fit so we have proper width on both sides of the pitch.

ronaldo - I was a bit worried when i turned upto OT yesterday and saw he wasn't playing. He's been superb and he's one we can't do without this season. Both him and giggs give us superb attacking options and with both of them playing we can take on teams knowing that 9 times out of 10 we'll score more than we concede.

saha - can tell he's confident as he's always attempting a shot when he gets the ball anywhere around the box. His form is keeping smith from getting games which is a shame but he's doing the business. Works hard for the team, more so than RvN ever did.

rooney - last 2 games he's been superb. Hopefully fergie's realised playing him on the wing doesn't bring out his best.

Solksjaer - such a good option to have, he hasn't really got the pace he once had but he's got an excellent footballing brain and as proved so far he'll play an important role this season.

Smith - in a different team he probably would have had half a dozen first team games under his belt so far, but with Saha's form fergie hasn't bothered rushing him back. He'll probably get 70mins on wednesday and maybe a start/30mins against copenhagen next week. Will be a good option when Saha/Rooney has a quiet game.

O'Shea - Not as bad as some people make out but he's not good enough for the starting 11 and sometimes loses his concentration. Good option for fullback cover.

Heinze - should take evra's spot when he finally comes back, just needs games to get back to his best.

Brown - Had a solid start to the season but Vidic's return has meant he'll be taking a backseat for the forseeable future.

Richardson - Think's he's better than he is. He isn't really fast enough to be a winger. With the squad as it is i cant see him getting much premiership football before xmas.

Now the age old question. Do we still need Hargreaves? I think so. But obviously if he was to come i wouldn't want us to play 5 in midfield as it'll most likely mean putting rooney on the wing. I think a lot will depend on how Carrick plays leading upto January because he simply hasn't done it so far. He's done the bare minimum every game and needs to do more.

I'm not gonna think too far ahead but we can challenge Chelsea. But as far as the immediate future goes saturday's fixture will be tough as hell. Luckily Nolan isn't playing which may or may not help us. We'll need to really battle to get anything out of it.

I pretty much agree with your summaries in everything other than I dont think you gave enough credit to Vidic, in my view he has been the outstanding defender we have.

If you watch him play he alwasy covers for Rios mistakes and backs him to the hilt, the only times vidic has looked a bit poor is when he makes a mistake as there is not one to back him up.

In terms of hargreaves, we need him end of. however if we got him I dont think carrick would play as active a part in the first team a hargreaves / scholes combination would be the number onec hoice imho.

i think a lot of people underestimated scholes before the season started. But to be fair he's the first name on the team sheet in midfield and if we were to sign another midfielder Carrick should start worrying. People started to moan after a couple of games but I kept quiet. Now 9(?) games into the premiership I want to see more from him. Not just a short pass sideways to the nearest person.

Everytime he gets the ball he has a look for that killer pass but 9 times out of 10 he won't attempt it.

I know it's a little early to be laying into Carrick, but what exactly does he do that Scholes cannot. Yet Ferguson insists on playing them both in central midfield.

Vidic and Evra have been fantastic this season, this should spell the end for Silvestre who I hope gets sold in January to help fund Hargreaves.

It's about time that Rio started to earn his £100,000 a week, I'm getting a bit fed up with his lapses, Vidic has been bossing our defence.

Giggs/Ronaldo/Scholes/Saha have by far been our best attacking players and been in consistent form since the start of the season. Long may it continue.

Rooney, he's in good form now, and we still got the results when he wasn't which is what matters most if we are to challenge Chelsea this season.

Smith/Heinze, seen little of them so far with them coming back from injury. Hope to see them in the first team soon, with Carrick being dropped.

Solskjaer, brilliant to see him fit again and enjoying his football, still looks embarassed whenever he scores. :D

O'Shea/Richardson/Brown, disappointments so far. I expect more from Wes Brown but expect it from the other two.

Fletcher, works his nuts off now because he has to in order to be selected for the first team, no longer a regular which is good, but I cannot fault his attitude this season even if I do think he is still a headless chicken boy.

Ultimately we need more from central midfield and that means getting Hargreaves or Mascherano in January. We need a player like this to complement Scholes and also to make him stop tackling people.

Last point is that we still need a captain not a good vice captain.

Snip................

Pretty much agree with your points. I think Vidic is exactly the kind of defender we have been missing for a good number of years. The pace and intelligence of a Garry Pallister and the aggression and strength of a Stevie Bruce. Shame his English isn't upto scratch as I think he would make a very good captain in that role.

Evra, im still unsure of his best position but he is certainly playing well at the moment. Fletcher is a real Enigma rolled up into a paradox. On Sunday he played very well, lots of commitment a real Butsa Bloodvessel performance. However against lesser opponents he can rarely pass to feet and questions marks hang over his commitment.

Players of the season thus far for Utd. Ronaldo and Giggs without question. Giggs seems to be getting better with age and Ronaldo is showing a real maturity since the world cup. He still does his flicks and step overs but there is more of an end product to his game now. Maybe its because hes being played in his natural role of playing more infield than as an orthodox winger.

Sunday was a funny game in the resepect that the team owed the fans a performance like that for how they played at Anfield in the FA Cup in Feb. It was ironic that Liverpool played like we did. Its good to see that Fergie has the ability still to motivate players

Do we need to strengthen further ? Well on our day and player for player I doubt there would be much between Utd & Chelsea. We have a strong first XI and some Good players waiting in the wings. Now is the time to add real quality to the squad if we buy anyone. Not buy two or three squad players but just one or two players who will keep the rest of the squad on their toes. Maybe another forward or maybe another midfielder

Quoted for Truth

Slightly off topic. Becks is being rumoured on his way out of Madrid in January with Utd, Newcastle and Arsenal being possible suitors. Whats your thoughts on the possibility of Becks coming back to Utd ?

Beckham back at Man U would be a good thing, even on Saturday there was no one who could see the long ball like Becks did. On loads of occassions Saha and Rooney were in great positions had someone put their head up and looked for the long cross field ball.

nah i dont think we need him now.

with carrick we have been effectively kaiboshed.

we have an 18million pound man who we will "have" to play now to prove his worth, keep fergie rep up etc.

thus u have Ronaldo on one side, and Giggs on the other, with scholes and carrick in the center i dont see where we can fit becks in

i think UTD are doing really well at the mo, i like the way they play the ball into Saha's feet a fair bit, he's quite good at that, not sure what the best line up is in Midfield, Fletcher played well on Sunday, but i still have qestion marks over him, Giggs and Scholes are playing blinders this term too, When Rooney starts banging them we will be even stronger, nice age in the team too, and it's clear we have money in the bank from the bids for Owen Harg, so be nice if someone else was brought in come Jan, but i would rather wait if it was a case of getting Owen Harg next summer.

Beckham could come from sitting on the Real Madrid bench in the blistering sun in a great city to sitting on the bench in wet and rainy Manchester.

But then again, he is a Man Utd lad and I would be surprised if he turned us down. You sometimes get the impression he would rather retire than go to another club in England.

Ferguson would never sign him. Never. So that rules out any chance of getting Beckham even if he wanted to come to us which I'm sure he would and he could leave his scag wife in Spain.
