Because they were unable to manufacture enough discs from what I have read (I think they sold over 1 million in week 1 in Japan or something). This pushed back the USA (Nintendo's 2nd favored market) release date, which in turn pushes EU date back.

The review I read of Wii fit was pretty dissapointing. I've seen wii fit previously on pre-order for £29.99.
