Depends as each mobo varies on the RAM speed it can handle and could force a slower speed if incompatible. And check the readme on the latest BIOS to see if it improves memory compatibility as 1600MHz memory is standard stuff on SB/IB.

Ivy Bridge can handle 3000MHz as this image from March will show from another forum by Sin0822. Don't want to hotlink but search for "Ivy Bridge can do 3000MHz Memory @ 4DIMMS"
