Mate having issue with 5850 but only on his PC

Could still do with knowing the make of the psu. A cheapo 850w will not be delivering anywhere near that claimed power.

Like I said above, it's a Corsair, not 100% sure on the model number, but is just over a year old - X something or other.

Update motherboard bios, try a different PCIe slot

I'll try a different PCIe slot, after I've ruled out the PSU on the weekend, and mobo bios will be an absolute last resort I think.

I wouldn't normally suggest this but there have been rare occasions where driversweeper (can't recall which one is free but it's either driversweeper or drivercleaner) has been very useful to me, yesterday for example. Try cleaning out any old unnecessary drivers then running that if you really are starting to pull your hair out. After all, it seems to be something related to one machine. Good luck. :)

Something I thought I should probably add - When booting off a Ubuntu Live CD, the problem doesn't occur... But I'm hesitant to believe it's a driver issue, given that the problem did occur on a fresh install of W7 on a separate hard drive.

I think it could be a defective PCIe slot!, have you had a look at the slot?
The gold female connectors could be damaged, or there could be some dust accumulation!
Heat can also play a part, is there sufficient airflow in the case?
If it's a Corsair supply and a single card, give the other 12V rail a bash!
Happy debugging!

I have an update - It's a driver issue...

Removed the drivers using the install manager, ran driver sweeper - rebooted and all is "hunky dory". Gonna try some older drivers and take it from there.

Thanks for the help guys, always appreciated!

Edit: Ok, just installed the drivers and software from the CD that came with the GPU itself, and the problem is back. Its obvious it's a driver problem, unless I'm missing something...
