Mate and dude are the two I go between, probably use them far too much, but then again so do my 'mates' :p

As above, the closer the friend the worse name we give each other, can get quite bad, but it's all in the name of love :D

I use 'pal' a lot. It's a very Glaswegian thing. 'Mate' is used often, but not as much as pal. And 'buddy' is also used semi-often.

'Lad' is also used now and then.

Woman are quite often 'love' or 'darling' but I am a smooth so and so!

Mate & Man - for lad mates. Babe - only to a GF, unless I'm joking around with a girl. Parents say 'Duck' all the time.

Why isn't Laird on the there? :D :D

"Other". I use peoples names, and if I don't know it introduce myself. I absolutely hate it when people call me mate.

I hate the people who hate other people calling them mate :)

its just a friendly term, nothing to get scared about.

I can't understand why people get so wound up about being called "mate".

Most the time its used as a term of endearment or respect, and not because they think you are a friend.

With some people you would have thought you'd have called them a **** or something.

And 99% people who hate being called "mate" will never bring the person up on it, mainly because they know it could offend the other person, and moreso, deep down they know that they mean no offense by it and that it is a term of endearment/respect.
