ok my mate has asked me to fix his pc. He got it before core duos came out. He has amd AM2 mobo, 4200x2 cpu, 2gb Geil 6400 memory, 7600gt gfx

so i could get a cheap am2 mobo for around £50 and have it up & running but i said for a small investment he could double the speed of his machine. VALUE is the name of the game whats best for £100-130 total mobo/cpu combo? ( no i7 or x58 suggestions please way too much)

I was thinking changing him to intel i have core duo nice o/c those chips are rapid. My board is a p965 ive been out the hardware game for a while so dont know whats decent these days.

P43 mobo + e5300 any good ?

any other options to consider? phenom/am3?

If You could stretch to £150 and get the AMD Athlon Quad core 2.6Ghz and a gigabyte motherboard that would go fast and work with your DDR2 Memory A phenom setup would require you to either get;
AM2 Board that supports AM3 processors is so you can still use your DDR2 Ram

1.) £120 ---- AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 245 2.90GHz AM3 on the Gigabyte *AM2* board

2.) £142 ---- AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 545 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) coupled with the Gigabyte board *AM2* board

3.) £150 ---- AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 620 2.60GHz (Socket AM3) with the Gigabyte board

could prob get a different board that depends on if you wanted built in graphics, they tend to be cheaper than the boards that require you to have a graphics card. the gigabyte board I was looking at has no onboard graphics
