Max line strength? how do i find out?

I was just wondering if there was a site that gave you a good reading of the max strength broadband that my phoneline could take?

My current provider say that I can get upto 3mb. Is this just with them or with all providers?

I am about 1.5km from the exchange.

Where do i find the SNR? I have a netgear G834DT (I Think) router.

Is there anything I can do with the router to inprove the speed. I used to have slightly faster speeds on my modem before changing to router, i thought it would have been the other way around.

What is a good filter? A certain make/brand?

ill have a look to see what filters ive got. Then search for some small woodland animals in my garden and surrounding area
