Max Res. Mobility Radeon 9600?

My laptop has a Mobility Radeon 9600. I'm thinking of upgrading my trusty old 17" TFT so I was wondering what the max res. my graphics card will handle is.
Also, is it worth getting a monitor with a higher native resolution for future-proofing, or will running that at a lower than optimal resolution give apretty poor display?

Any advice much appreciated as always.

Max = 2048 x 1536 60 Hz
It should depend on the optimal resolution of the monitor.

Thanks for that.
Is 2048 x 1536 definitely the max. res for the 32MB version of my card then, I didn't realise it was so high!?
Should be OK for a widescreen (e.g. 1680 x 1050) monitor then (obviously I'm not expecting great 3d performance at the higher res. mainly Photoshop)?

1680 x 1050 will be fine, providing monitor supports this.

It seems that this isn't the case. I've installed the drivers for my new Xerox XM3-22wB Monitor and the max res. available seems to be 1280x768.

The monitor can do 1680x1050, but I don't get that as an option in Display Properties/Settings/

In fact, I don't see any widescreen ratios offered even in the 'advanced' menu.

Any hints?

Try downloading the Omegadrive modified Catalysts, they can sometimes be a little more flexible on that side of things than the more official 'safe' drivers.

Where can I get these from?
Thanks for the advice by the way.

www.omegadrivers.net I think it is. Omega Drivers can be googled easy though :)

If those drivers dont sort out the res issue, then its definately an issue with the monitor driver, and you may need to use a program to create a custom res (1680x1050@60Hz)
