MaxDSL on long line results!!!

just out of curiosity what did the bt line checker say your line would support on max dsl before the upgrade? it says for me 2.5mb, but im hopeing for atleast 4mb, my attenuation is a little higher then yours on 1mb, 59.5, and my SNR is better though 29.5 allthough that is with a very old bt voyager 100 modem, might be better when i get a router. im being upgraded tomorrow :D

wow, thats pretty good then if you manage to get 4mb, i would be happy with 4mb, and very very happy with 5mb, my old house which is about 2mins walk away from me can get 8mb according to the bt checker :x

from 4000Kbps 3.5Mbps
from 4544Kbps 4Mbps
;)
I just need to somhow get an extra 150Kbs or so out of my line then i have 4Mb

I just need another 500k to get 9 meg!

Downloads burst at around 1100kb (kilobytes, not kilobits) sometimes up to 2100 then settle down to around the above speed. Best ... upgrade ... ever.

All of a sudden my upgrade feels......puny

It's not so good in the afternoon though, I think it's an exchange capacity issue, from around 3-4 onwards right through til the following morning it goes down to 5.5meg.

BT Checker said 1.5Mb or greater
Wow, I can’t wait to get MAX now?!

Veggie, I have almost exactly the same stats/router as you, and the BT checker says I can have 'upto' 3 MB - which I still think is great having been limited to 1 MB for so long, so anything above that would be even greater ;)

Keep us posted on what your stats/sync rate settles at after the 10 day period :)

The BT online check says my exchange is good for 6.5mb, getting enabled today and so far my old router is saying :

Line attenuation 8.5 dB
Noise margin 16 dB

8128 Kbps Downstream
448 Kbps Upstream

However, online speed tests say im only getting 1.6mb Downstream, think its my old router though so ill wait for my new BT router to arrive before saying any more about that :)

whats more important to sync at higher speeds, attenuation or SNR?

Both really. High Attenuation weakens the signal on the line and would make you more vounerable to any noise that should occur.

It's like BHP and Torque. Neither are directly linked, but they can affect eachother indirectly and are BOTH needed to go fast.

Good analogy :D

Yeah im looking forward to getting a nice upgrade soon too.

Hopefully plus.net will hold out well and BT will manage to give me a wee boost from 1mbit.

Had one disconnection so far and upon reboot my sync speed is 4320 kbps / 488Kbps.The slightly lower sync speed seems to have help, ds SNR is now stable at 6 for past 2 hours :D I still have 320Kbps overhead to full back on if i want to keep 3.5Mb :) :) :)
