If you have a fear of flying this video may or maynot be something you want to watch but it is 100% real  , It was taken on April 29th by a colleague of mine Simon Lowe at Manchester airport & he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

It captures a full mayday emergency as a Thompson Boeing 757 departed Manchester's runway 06L & had a birdstrike (two large Herons) which destroyed No2 engine at the most critical point as it just lifted off.

It just goes to show how safe modern aircraft can be & the skill of the flight crew & emergency services :) & the only casualty was a few million pounds of RollsRoyce engine.

PLEASE GIVE THE VIDEO TIME TO LOAD AS IT'S GETTING HAMMERED DUE TO IT'S DEMAND BEING VERY HIGH ,Non members receive restricted download speed so be patient.

And ATC ;)

I'm waiting on the video to load and haven't seen it yet but heard about it on the grapevine. Good to see that everything worked out, looks like the incident was handled very well by everyone.

That's amazing, I thought it was gona explode for a second  . Do airports do anything about birds btw?

haha imagine sitting over the wing and looking out the window seeing those flames

id be screaming like a mofo
I'd just ask the person sitting across the isle if their engine was still working ;)

Does anyone know why the engine didn't recover? It looked like it was trying to auto-reboot many times.

You WOULD crap yourself.

Well I would.

I'm not sure. I've flown that many times, I think I'd be glad of the change...:)

This just proves that there's no such thing as a perfectly good plane, yet another reason to take up skydiving. Godamn it, since FF's gone I am the only one left pimping skydiving...come on guys, get jumping lol.

It was probably un-ignited fuel vapour, exploding as it hit the hot parts at the back of the engine.
