After a series of Windows reinstallations trying to determine a fault, I have discovered that McAfee of all things is to blame!
I had a probem whereby a game of mine (Age of Mythology: The Titans) became a real trouble to play online. It would freeze up when certain things were done.
When reinstalling Windows for the second time in a row I was very careful to test the game after each stage of installation (a highly boring process). I got a BSoD after McAfee Privacy Service (in my McAfee Internet Security Suite 8.0) updates itself. It causes other bugs in Windows for me too, such as installation and uninstallation errors for other hardware and software. Before this update occurs my system runs perfectly, with all Windows updates installed and all my hardware setup. But once the update installs all hell breaks loose!

What is strange though is that it worked fine on my old rig and does too on my family's computer. But on my current setup this software is destructive. Now, Privacy Service is not really a programme I require, but I do however need the Antivirus and the Firewall is desirable too. I am going to reinstall once more, and this time just leave out the Privacy Service and Spam Killer. If then there are no problems I will be happy enough, but if the security suite itself is to blame then I guess I will have to purchase an alternative one.
I would like to know if anyone has encountered this error before as it seems really crazy that an automatic update from such a large and prestigious company can cause so much mayhem. I would like to blame it on my CD, but having tested it on other PCs and it working fine, and seeing no scratches whatsoever on the CD, I assume there is some major incompatibility between that and my hardware. If it isn't that then I fear I may have a hardware fault.
Can anyone give me some guidance on this please?
