OK, over the last couple of weeks my car has been making a knocking noise coming from the front left of the car. It was mainly when pulling away and coming to a stop, but over the last couple of days it has been knocking irregularly when just crusing along, and I can actually feel the knocking too.

After a bit of research on the DC2 forum I conclude it is either the CV joint or an engine mount. Oh Joy.

Then it dawned on me: I haven't checked the wheel nuts since fitting the new wheels, so this morning I checked them, and sure enough, they were all fairly lose, with the front left having two that were only finger tight

I tightend them all up, and sure enough said knocking has dissapeared.

/must check the obvious first next time :o

They may be loose again in a few days if the wheel bearing is knackered. This is what I found on my last Mondeo anyway. I tightened them and the knocking and droning disappeared, they came back a few days later. So make sure you check your nuts regularly :p If they're loose again then jack up the wheel and give it a good old shake checking for any play.

I'm sure that DreXel is more than competent at checking for a dodgy wheel bearing (but by that argument his nuts wouldn't have been loose!) :p

Haha, my brother had this with his newly aquired Clio 182Cup. He took it in to Renault because of knocking on the front only to be told, and charged, that it was the wheel nuts that were lose. £35+VAT for tightening 4 wheelnuts - not bad. Glad it's not anything major.
