I'd be annoyed but only with myself for getting such a bad deal on an MOT the place I took it to could afford to drive it somewhere else, pay them to do it and still profit out of me.

£30? Thought that was cheap to be honest.

I think it was probably the principle of someone driving his car without necessarily having permission other than to move it forwards 10-15ft then back off the ramp.

I pay £54 for mine, but the guy fiddles the emissions as my piece of crap car is like 0.02 under the limit.

An MOT tester can road test a car during the MOT test. If its a diesel Vosa recommend a road test to warm the engine before the emissions test.

As said a lot of places do this, Could have been many a reason why they have done it. 12 miles is nothing really, least it passed and your sorted for another 12 months. If it still bothers you in 12 months just take it else where.

My old e38 7 Series went to BMW for an ABS fault, it came back fixed and an extra 67miles on the clock, I didn't mind though, it came back with more fuel than I left it with & valeted!

12miles is nothing, nor is it uncommon for garages to do this.

Bargain. Unless anything was damaged i would be happy. Place i go has charged £25 for years. Its about the only thing i know thats never gone up

I was delighted, the car went in filthy (inside & out :o) & with the fuel warning light on, it came back just under 1/4 - not bad result given it had an 85 litre fuel tank! :D

I was not charged for the fuel either!

MOt over here is a much better job IMO.
Much more a test, regulated and performed by the DVA. They do no work to cars so have no "interest" in failing them in the hope to get work out of it. Also much better equiped and standardised accross test centres of which there are about 8 in total to cover the whole of northern ireland. proper brake balance testing, handbrake testing, suspension testing, rig that shakes the whole car pushing and pulling on wheels to see what potential bushes have gone etc. And price is standard at £32, they either pass or fail you and send you on your way, if its a fail you get the fail sheet and only fix whats on the fail list, re-test within 21 days and they only check the bits listed on the fail sheet have been sorted.

My car got driven 4 miles whilst it was in having a bodykit fitted, by an approved bodyshop as well. Kicked up a massive stink with Porsche, was told that it was routine to road test the car after any kind of "bodywork" (which I thought was garbage). At the end of the day though what can you do?

Would you not prefer that to picking the car up and the first pothole you hit the bumper falls off?

H
