I have a strange problem I am hoping someone may know something about. Using MPC on a dual screen system. I have Ultramon installed and using FFDSHOW to decode all codecs. If watching xvid encoded media on the primary screen, cpu usage is 3-5%. If i then move to the secondary screen CPU usage goes up to 11%. If i make it full screen, it then uses 50-60%. Very strange. It did this with both my old 7800GTX and now with my x1900xt. I will try other media players to see if they are the same but I really love my MPC :P Any help is appreciated!

I shall give it a go, didnt really like it the last time I used it but if this problem is specific to MPC then I will have to start liking other media players :)

how do you play video on a secoundry LCD screen I have been having this issue as it will play on my main screen but not on my dual monitor?

This behaviour is caused by the way video is displayed on current operating systems using hardware overlays provided by the GPU. Fortunately, Vista completely does away with hardware video overlays and replaces it with the Desktop Compositor. This will mean you can run as many videos as you like, whatever size and spread across whichever screens you like without any serious performance degradation.

NathanE that makes me happy! Although doesnt help me for another 6 months or so :P

jmahoney: I just drag the window to whichever monitor I want and it plays.

I tried WMP and it too has this spike, but its no where near as bad. CPU usage was 9% at most, so only 4% more. Will try other media players to see which is best.
