Hi all

As the title sugest im having some problems with my headset. Ive had the headset for well over a year now with no real problems, however after a fresh install of XP (virus), I cannot get the mic to work. The software that comes with the headset does not detect the mic, ive tried boosting the db by 20 but it makes no difference.

I use ventrilo on a daily basis for playing Eve and its really hampering my game due to not being able to communicate with my corp m8s properly

The mic does work on the sound recorder in Windows XP?? As far as I know all my drivers are up to date.

Any advise would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Sorry if this sounds rude, but check you haven't muted your mic in ventrilo. But of course you havent :P

So go to setup, make sure the input and output devices box are ticked, and they're set to the right card.

In the hardware mixer make sure the input is microphone. Otherwise just play with settings

All settings are correct, ive disabled the onboard sound so the only thing im left with is the headset.

Ive been playing with the setting the last 2 days and still no luck :( Going to write an email to speedlink and see if they can offer some advise.

There is no mute on the headset is there? Also do you have a front Audio connection? Sometimes that can disable the rear audio.

There is a mute control on the headsets but it is off. Its a USB headset so front audio doesnt come into it and isnt on my comp anyway ;)

Its weird because the mic is working, i can hear myself breath + talk but no software recognises it (apart from windows recorder).

Its a real pain in the ass :(

Thanks for all the comments so far, keep em coming

When you plug the USB headset in, it becomes the default audio device.
So just make sure vent is setup with default audio and only mess with vent settings while the headset is plugged in.

The problem is even the software that comes with the headset soes not hear the mic. When i hit +20db there is a noticable difference in volume, however the software still does not register any noise.

There is a graphical display with the software that shows the volume go up and down as you speak, the display registers nothing. There is also a specail feature that alllows you to manipulate your voice, change pitch and so on so you sound like your sucking on Helium, as soon as you press this all sound from the mic cuts out.

Also when I go to 'sounds and audio devices' in XP, the 'test hardware' option also does not hear anything from the mic :(

I always have problems on a fresh install.

The fix for me, was to go into Control Panel, Sound Speech and Audio, Sound and Audio Devices,

Then click on Voice, Then Test Hardware at the bottom, it fixes it for me :)

I am a big user of Teamspeak and i have never used ventrilo but in Teamspeak there are a few sound options that can stop the microphone working. There are options like Sound drivers, Input/output device. Just a though but not sure if you get those options in Ventrillo

Already tried that m8 with no luck. It seems like some sort of driver problem but ive tried all available drivers on the Speedlink site :(

this sort of thing happened to my mates set a short week ago, but his mic totally died after being perfectly fine for 3 days.

He contacted the company and they said RMA it.
Might be an idea to contact the company and ask too?
