Megane 225 Cup Or EP3 CTR: Opinions Please

I dont think I will ever understand why people would use this is a reason to decide between two cars of this type. It's the sort of logic that would lead you to pick the worst car you can just so nobody else was stupid enough to buy one.

did i mention anything about worse/better aspects about the cars? something more unique would have more appeal to me though.

In this market something unique is normally unique for all the wrong reasons. There are millions of Civic Type R's out there because they are damn good.

and lovely as the revvy vtec is, the megane is far from being a slouch, with a lump of turbo shove in the mid range.

there are definitely a lot of "pros" for the megane

Impreza WRX's are similar to the NA Supra. Good but just not the full fat version.

And my shopping trolley for comparison :p

In the real world, there is not a whole lot of performance difference in these cars as they all have close BHP per tonne figures. It just depends what "kind" of performance you want.

With these 2 cars all I'll say is drive both, people tend to love one and hate the other in either case.

WRX's have lower gearing also, above 80 they aren't up to much. Hell my non turbo supra would mince a WRX above 80, well until it hit the 112 limiter pmsl.

I've found quite the opposite in my WRX, it pulls nicely right through up to naughty speeds, much better than my old 172 and other similar cars I've driven.

I wouldn't expect an NA Supra to exactly be a slouch though so not sure why you say that as if it's a surprising fact :p

200+bhp, big engine, rwd, proper sporty coupe, it's designed for it. Unlike the Impreza which is like a brick with wheels.

And picking the 2001 model for the comparison will never fair well as that was the slowest WRX produced I believe.

I'm by no means saying the WRX is a 400bhp monster, I know it isn't, but it seems to me marginally faster than the hot hatches of it's time, unless caught in the wrong gear :p

This...

You need to see which of the two types of power delivery YOU prefer. Everyone is different, the apeal of low down torque and turbo boost at 4,000 revs appealed to me. So I got a Focus ST, and I couldn't think of a better engine in a hot hatch personally.

We are all different, so you need to try them both and come to your own conclusion.

P.S have you got insurance quotes yet? The EP3's are renowned for high premiums becuase of their reputation with young drivers. When I was looking at my next car I could insure a Focus RS cheaper than an EP3.

16s 0-100mph for the EP3 is good. Got the slowest 0-60 of those cars but still gets too a ton quicker, that says a lot.

Going back some years I had a 2.2vtec UK Prelude, with fill decat system, aem v2, and some weight reduction work. Once moving it was quicker than a mates VX220 N/A and Impreza WRX, yet off the Mark it had no chance against either, fact was though I never was one for traffic light GP but that extra performance once moving was used daily.

An EP3 is quick due to how engine develops power, gearing and light weight, a 220BHP-240BHP one would no doubt be circa 6.2s to 60 and 15s to 100. :)

Though a 270BHP MEgane would be a bit quicker again. :)

Far from credible! I don't ever trust youtube videos...

Plus that's just a title, and a red civic type r going along!! It didn't even look like it got to 60!!

Look credible to me, proper timing gear, looks like an organised event and you can easily hear 6.11s on tannoy system too 60 (not 62).

Standard 2003 WRX does 0-100 in 15.9 officially so very similar, that drops to 14 with PPP (so around 260bhp).

Ev0 I picked the 01 WRX as that is what Acemodder here has which was my comparison. Although on that same day his car dynoed at 239BHP and my Supra at 224BHP.

Fair enough, as I said then hardly anything in it so not surprising they are similar. And given the general design, aero, drive train etc of each car hardly surprising the Supra is good at high speeds :)

I just find it funny that everyone compares there cars to an 'Impreza', yet they only ever seem to mean the WRX :p

Sadly a lot of WRX drivers think the same, 'I've got an Impreza innit mate' syndrome without realising that a WRX whilst no slouch is just pretty warm rather than scorching. They then proceed to spend a fortune on them when the best option is to sell and just buy an STi which they should have done in the first place.

I like mine though :)

I'd love to see you do 0-60 below 6 seconds in your Civic.

Wouldn't be too hard too believe would it?

Book figures stock is 6.4.

In first and second a KPRO tuned map with 5200rpm VTEC is going to shave off at least .2seconds

8600 rev limit allows you to get to 60 without changing into 3rd. Thats .3 seconds off for a gear change. Bingo all done.
