Looking at these as an option now, I think depreciation should be quite high, but I can pick one up from a dealers on an 05 for 13k fully kitted etc. Looking at the specs 0-60 in 6.2 secs quicker than most hot hatches on the road. I have read that the throw on the gearbox is quite long, but apart from than a very good car. Insurance is cheaper than the mini cooper s as well by 20 a month!

Anyone got any comments on them?

The gearstick throw is easily solved with a cheap mod to the linkage.

Only thing I didn't like when I test drive one was the interior, just felt a little too cheap for the price tag. Drive was remarkably good though.

Pick up a mint condition Celica GT4 for 7k, will kick the crud out of that Megane, wll hold it's value, and are very reliable. :)

As long as you don't need the space.

And/Or you don't mind owning something a decade old.

As long as it's in mint condition I don't see anything wrong with that. But if he needs the space, then it's a sucky choice.

Putting aside the "French" comments (which are funny - but stupid at the same time) the 225 Megane is a stonking car. No two ways about it. If you ever get a go in the Trophy edition you will be hooked. I haven't drive many powerful FWD cars that match it for driveability and poise. Plus it looks awesome too.

Evo love the latest one, although I think it's the trophy version that is the decent one, the standard one not having the greatest handling.

correct

the trophy is the one with the sachs dampers iirc

and no dig at the french would be complete without a visit by me lol

i personally wouldnt buy one, weve used them at brands for a while, and they dont handle that well, they go ok but are put together by fisher price.

on that same site you can get the RS 230 F1 Team R26 version for £800 more.

These ones are supposed to be a bit special, A lot better than the 225 which I thaught was good but a little soggy. I was very impressed with the cup though, so if this F1230 is better than that it must be very good! i fancy a test drive! :D

Cracking engine, cracking chassis.

Absolutely hideous exterior and interior, the interior dash looks and feels cheap, and that comes from someone who drivers a tarty focus.

They could do them cheap enough for me to buy one tbh.

The F1 R26 or whatever it's called is a steal for under 15k.

You get an lsd up front and the recaro seats, which are an £800 option on their own anyway!

The interior aint that bad, and I actually quite like the looks from the outside now, really grown on me when I saw it in the flesh! Cracking car for the money!
